ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's soccer team once again showed the great first step that they've had all season long, but the Titans couldn't find the back of the net in a 2-0 loss to host University of Michigan on Wednesday night.

Detroit Mercy, which defeated the Wolverines last season in Ann Arbor, showed a good offensive presence early, tallying four corner kicks and two shots in the first 11 minutes of the contest. Neither team could find the back of the net throughout early on during a soggy night from U-M Soccer Stadium.

Junior keeper Robbie Beckwell, who tied a career-best with 10 saves in his last game vs. Western Michigan, turned away four more in the first half against the Wolverines, including a sprawling save off a shot from Michigan's Yamann Sahlool that was curving to the upper 90, far post.

Michigan was able to convert on a corner kick in the 43rd minute to secure a 1-0 halftime lead. The Wolverines found the back of the net again just after the break to go up 2-0. The Titans had two looks in the second half as freshmen Max Becker and Nick Toupin each posted shots.

Detroit Mercy had the edge in corner kicks during the contest (5-3) and tallied eight shots, including six in the first half. Junior Spiro Pliakos led the Titans with two shots, one of them on goal. Beckwell finished the game with four saves total.

Sophomore GK Josh Flamme made his collegiate debut in the contest, playing the final 19 minutes of the game and not allowing a goal. He faced two shots.

The Titans return to Horizon League play this weekend, visiting Milwaukee for an 8 p.m. ET match at Engelmann Stadium. The game is set to be streamed live on ESPN3.com and the WatchESPN Applications.
