MILWAUKEE, Wis. (1/13/2017) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball team and host Milwaukee played shot-for-shot for most of Friday morning's contest at the Klotsche Center, but the Titans fell victim to a fourth quarter run by the Panthers, falling by an 81-69 margin. The game was played in front of 2,416 mostly-kids in Milwaukee's annual School Day Game.

Detroit Mercy (7-9 overall) dropped to 3-2 on the season in the Horizon League.

Senior guard Rosanna Reynolds tallied her third double-double of the season with 16 points and a season-high 12 assists, adding five rebounds for the Titans. She moved into second place all-time in career assists with 488, passing former Titan Mary Lillie. Graduate forward Kelsey Mitchell added 12 points, while freshman Anja Marinkovic was also in double figures with 12 points, making three 3-pointers.

Detroit Mercy made five 3-pointers in the opening quarter of the game, from five different individuals to take a 21-19 lead after one. The Titans were 5-of-7 from deep in the opening 10 minutes with Haleigh Ristovski and Gracie Roberts each scoring five points in the opening frame.

Kelsey Mitchell scored 10 points in the second quarter alone to help stake Detroit Mercy to a 37-34 halftime lead. Mitchell, who tallied a team-high 12 points in the first half, scored eight-straight points at one point, using a variety of moves down low on the block for buckets. Reynolds had eight assists in the first half and as a team Detroit Mercy assisted on 13 of 15 makes in the opening 20 minutes of the contest.

The third quarter was more of the same of a back-and-forth contest between the two schools. Milwaukee had a 18-13 edge in scoring in the third to take a 52-50 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Marinkovic hit both of her 3-point attempts in the third and Reynolds added five in the stanza.

The Titans held a 55-52 lead with 8:35 left after sophomore Brittney Jackson knocked down a 3-pointer and Reynolds made a lay-up as Detroit Mercy opened the fourth on a 5-0 run. Milwaukee then tied the game up for the 10th time with a 3-pointer. Junior forward Brianne Cohen followed with two consecutive buckets, however, to give the Titans a 59-55 lead and force Milwaukee into a timeout.

Milwaukee would tied the game up, 61-61, with 5:04 left and then used a 12-1 run to take a double-digit lead over the Titans. Reynolds sank one of her three 3-pointers with 1:30 remaining to cut the Milwaukee lead to eight, 73-65, but the Panthers knocked down free throws in the final minutes, sinking all eight in the final 79 seconds of the game.

Detroit Mercy shot 44.8 percent in the contest, including 47.8 from beyond the arc (11-for-23). The Titans made 11 3-pointers in the game, which was the fifth time in 2016-17 that Detroit Mercy has made 11 or more triples in a game. Six different Titans filled it up from beyond the arc.

The Titans also had 21 assists on 26 field goals, marking the fourth time this season that the squad has recorded 20 or more assists in a game.

Mitchell finished 6-for-8 from the floor and added four rebounds. Cohen and Haleigh Ristovski each added eight points for the Titans. Detroit Mercy held the advantage in steals (9-7) and had the only two blocks in the contest.
