Titans Tripped Up At Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE (12/30/2017) -- In a contest that featured seven ties and 24 lead changes, five Titans scored in double figures, but Milwaukee went on one last run late in the game as the University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team dropped an 87-79 contest at Panthers Arena on Saturday night.

Redshirt junior Kameron Chatman led the way with a game-high 20 points and also grabbed eight rebounds and dished out three assists. Graduate Senior Roschon Prince tallied his first double-double of the year tying his season-high with 11 points and pulling down a season-best 10 rebounds, and junior Tariiq Jones recorded 12 points and tied his season high with five boards.

It was back and forth in the first half as Detroit Mercy (4-11, 0-2 HL) found themselves down by six, 29-23, with 9:33 left when the red, white and blue took a five-point lead on the strength of a 14-3 run. That spurt was capped by baskets from senior Jaleel Hogan and Jones as the Titans led 37-32 at the 6:16 mark.

Milwaukee (8-7, 1-1 HL) was able to recover and take a slim 48-47 advantage into the half.

The second half started much like the first with both teams having leads. The Titans last lead was at 59-58 as Jones connected on a jumper with 15:24 left.

The Panthers got the advantage back and led for the next eight minutes until free throws from sophomore Corey Allen and Prince knotted it at 73-73 with 7:08 remaining. That is when Milwaukee ended the contest on a 14-6 run.

Hogan finished with 10 points to move into a tie for 35th place in school history with 1, 062 points. Junior Josh McFolley added 11 points, three rebounds and two steals and freshman Jermaine Jackson Jr. recorded seven points, four rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Detroit Mercy shot 43.9 percent and won the rebounding battle, 38-31.

The Titans will return to action next Friday, Jan. 5, as the red, white and blue host Wright State at 9 p.m. in a nationally televised game on ESPNU.

  • The Panthers surged ahead again, this time by as many as five, 71-66, with 9:06 on the clock, but the Titans started to chip away with a three from McFolley.
