INDIANAPOLIS (12/6/2016) -- University of Detroit Mercy men's soccer student-athlete
Tyler Moorman (Caledonia, Mich. / East Kentwood) was named the 2017 Horizon League Male Scholar-Athlete of the Fall, it was announced on Wednesday afternoon by the league office.
Moorman recently capped off a standout senior season for the Titans, leading all Horizon League men's soccer players in goals (11) and points (24) during the regular season. He was named First Team All-Horizon League and United Soccer Coaches All-Great Lakes Region.
He was selected to the Horizon League Men's Soccer All-Academic Team as one of five Titans to earn the honor. Moorman was also the only Horizon League men's soccer student-athlete to be selected as one of 30 nominees for the Senior Class Award from across the nation.
Moorman was selected as the Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week following the final week of the regular season, scoring two goals in the final eight minutes of a 2-1 win at Cleveland State to help the Titans get into the postseason. He finished the year with 11 goals, 25 points and three game-winning goals and had the most goals and points of any Titan men's soccer student-athlete since the 2012 season.
Moorman, who had a 3.74 GPA as an undergraduate, is set to graduate with his Master of Business Administration degree in five years from the University next May. He has maintained a 3.92 GPA in graduate school.
The two-year co-captain and two-time All-Horizon League honoree wrapped up his career with 21 goals and four assists for 46 career points. He was a four-year starter for the Titans, who started 76 of the 79 career matches in which he played.
The Titans have claimed three-straight Horizon League Fall Scholar-Athletes of the Year with cross country standout Ben Kendell earning the honor in each of the past two seasons.
