Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Titans Leash Bulldogs

PONTIAC, Mich. (2/18/2017) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team used a high-powered offense and some stingy second-half defense to tame the Butler Bulldogs on Saturday, 20-9, at Ultimate Soccer Arenas in Pontiac.

Sophomore Lexie Kinmond led the offense by tying her career high with seven points on four goals and three assists. Sophomore Morgan Girardi tallied a career-high six points on a career-high five goals and an assist and junior Jordyn Beam posted four goals, four ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Junior Brianna Plester collected a team-high four draw controls to go with a pair of scores and ground balls. Junior Lauren Webley recorded a game and career-high four caused turnovers and tied her career-best with five ground balls and sophomore Allison McDonough made eight saves

Senior Kelsi Pritchard – who also scored two goals on the day – started the game with a marker as she took a pass from junior Brittany Fenney and beat the keeper just thirty seconds into play.

Detroit Mercy (1-1) was leading 7-5 with 11:12 left in the first half when the Titans took complete control netting seven-straight goals.

Plester started the offensive charge with two-straight scores, and then Beam found the back of the net off a pass from Girardi for a 10-7 advantage at the 8:07 mark.

With the Titans winning back-to-back draw controls by junior Emma Mucci and senior Julie Castner, the red, white and blue kept the offensive pressure on as Kinmond and Beam went back-to-back for goals to extend it to a 12-5 lead with 6:52 left.

The run continued with a free position goal off the crosse of junior Jessica Snyder and then the Titans ran their lead to nine, 14-5, with 2:42 remaining as Fenney notched her lone marker on the afternoon.

Kinmond added one late in the first half and the Titans led at the break, 15-7.

The rout was officially on early in the second half as Detroit Mercy opened the period with four more scores. Kinmond located Girardi for a marker just 37 seconds into the new period. Girardi then scored two minutes later. She would win the draw control after that and off a Butler (0-2) foul, Pritchard was able to fire one in for an 18-7 lead with 25:32 remaining.

Kinmond fed Beam for the 19th goal at the 23:24 mark and freshman Maeve Grady registered her first collegiate goal for a 20-8 advantage with 11:11 left in the contest.

The Titans outshot the Bulldogs, 37-20, and also had the edge in ground balls, 22-16. Detroit Mercy won the battle of draw controls, 17-14, and forced 22 Butler turnovers.

Detroit Mercy will have a week off before its next game as the red, white and blue will return to action next Sunday, Feb. 26, when they host San Diego State indoors at Ultimate Soccer Arenas. Game time is set for Noon.
