Kaitlyn Wandelt each notched hat tricks, but the University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team fell at home Sunday against San Diego State, 18-7.
The two sides played back and forth throughout the first half. After San Diego State opened the game with a goal, the Titans found the back of the net next with Pritchard scoring off a feed from sophomore
Lexie Kinmond at the 21:56 mark. The Aztecs scored back-to-back goals, but Detroit Mercy cut the lead to one, 3-2, as Wandelt scored her first of the season with 14:15 left in the first half.
The Titans continued to play well on both ends in the first half. After the Aztecs scored a pair of goals to go up 5-2, Detroit Mercy came back with two-straight markers. Pritchard scored her second of the game and Wandelt added one just over two minutes later to cut the SDSU lead to 5-4, with 8:09 left in the first half.
Wandelt would complete her first hat trick of the season just minutes later, scoring her third goal of the year to cut the deficit to 7-5 with 3:34 left before the half. The Aztecs scored the final two goals in the first to hold a 9-5 halftime advantage.
Kinmond scored a goal early in the second half and Pritchard completed her hat trick with 21:09 left, receiving a pass from Kinmond inside the circle and finishing past the keeper. Pritchard's seventh goal of the year brought the Titans to within four, 11-7.
McDonough made five saves the rest of the way, but the Titans weren't able to net another marker. SDSU held the advantage in shots, 40-23. The Titans earned 10 of the 26 draw controls and also earned seven free-position shots in the game. The red, white and blue went 21-of-29 on clear attempts and forced 18 SDSU turnovers, nine in each half.
McDonough was strong in net all day, making several point-blank saves. She tied her career-high with 15 saves and already has two 15-save games this season as the sophomore also made 15 stops in the season opener at Notre Dame. McDonough added a season-high four ground balls and a caused turnover.
Pritchard scored on all three of her shots. Wandelt went 2-of-3 on free-position shots. Junior defender

Alex McCafferty each added two caused turnovers and two ground balls.

Emma Mucci led the squad with three draw controls with Kinmond adding two DC. Kinmond had another multi-point effort with three points (1g, 2a) with junior attack
Jordyn Beam adding a helper. Webley, Mucci,
Brittany Fenney and
Julie Castner all nabbed two ground balls.
It was the third meeting between the two schools in women's lacrosse all-time with each side winning one game previously.

Detroit Mercy returns to the road next weekend, heading to Pennslyvania for a pair of games. The Titans visit Robert Morris on Saturday, March 4 before heading to Pittsburgh for a contest against Duquesne on Monday, March 6.
