DETROIT (3/31/2017) --  It was an intense, back-and-forth first half battle between the Titans and Paladins on a cold and overcast day from Titan Field on Friday, but a second-half run was too much to overcome for the University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team in a 12-6 setback to Furman.

Senior midfielder Kelsi Pritchard led the offense with her fourth hat trick of the season, scoring three goals. Junior attack Jordyn Beam added one goal and one assist, while junior defender Emma Mucci totaled team-bests with four ground balls and three draw controls. Freshman midfielder Tegan McManus added a season-high three ground balls.

The Paladins scored three of the first four goals of the contest in the opening 10 minutes, but Detroit Mercy used a 4-1 run to take a 5-4 lead late in the first half. Junior attack Jessica Snyder scored her sixth of the season right in front of the net and it was followed just minutes later by Beam's free-position marker to knot the game, 3-3.

After a Furman goal, Pritchard tallied her second of the game off a pass by sophomore Lexie Kinmond to again tie the contest, 4-4, with 6:19 left in the first half. Detroit Mercy would go on to take the lead, 5-4, just before the halftime break as senior Julie Castner scored off another assist by Kinmond. The Paladins would tie the game up just before halftime as each team had five goals in the opening 30 minutes.

Furman scored six-straight goals in the second half to take an 11-5 lead before Pritchard ended the run with her third marker of the game with 8:55 remaining. Pritchard's goal was assisted by Beam.

The Titans would get no closer the rest of the way, finishing the contest with 19 shots, 14 of them on goal. Furman took 30 shots in the game. The red, white and blue was effective on clear attempts during the contest, completing a season-high 82 percent (18-of-22). Detroit Mercy also had its second-lowest turnover total of the season with 17, while forcing Furman into 16 turnovers.

Sophomore goalkeeper Allison McDonough turned away seven shots in the game, going past the 100-save milestone on the season. She also finished with four ground balls. Pritchard and Beam both capitalized on free-position goals. Junior Brittany Fenney and senior Lauren Webley each added two ground balls for the Titans.

With two assists during Friday's game, Kinmond now has 99 career points, just one shy of becoming the eighth Titan in school history with 100 career points. Pritchard surpassed the 90-point plateau during the game and is nearing the 100-point mark as well with 92 points. Kinmond is just one assist shy of second place on the career list with 40 helpers.

Webley moved into a tie-for-sixth place on the career list in caused turnovers with 45 total. Pritchard reached the 20-goal plateau in a single-season for the second time in her career. She had a career-high 22 goals in 2015 as a sophomore.

It was the third meeting between Detroit Mercy and Furman all-time.
