Women's Basketball Adds Aiora Rivas Preciado for 2017-18

DETROIT (5/30/2017) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball program and head coach Bernard Scott has announced the signing of Aiora Rivas Preciado (Ibiza, Spain / IES CTEIB), who recently inked her NLI to play with the Titans.

Preciado, a 5-foot-10 guard, is the second international player to join the Titans in the past two years under coach Scott and is one of three incoming freshmen for the 2017-18 academic school year, Scott's third as head coach. She'll join Detroit Mercy later in the summer when student-athletes return to campus.

"Aiora is a high-level guard that can affect the game in a variety of ways on the offensive end," Scott said. "She's a tall guard that will cause matchup problems. She's very good scoring off the bounce and has a good feel for the game. She's also a person of high character and will fit right in with our players. Aiora is a great addition to our program and I'm looking forward to working with her when she arrives in August."

Preciado, who just recently graduated high school in Spain, has played basketball for 12 years and in 2015-16 was named the Best Basketball Player of Ibiza and was a nominee as the best athlete in the Island of Ibiza. Her high school team, Centre Tecnificacio Esportiva Illes Balears, finished first in both 2015 and 2016 and finished runner-up during the 2017 season. In 2013-14, her Club Esportiu Basquet Sa Real team finished the season in second place.

The Titans announced the signings of local products Kayla Brown (Flint, Mich. / Robichaud High School) and Lexey Tobel (Hartland, Mich. / Hartland High School) during the season after both signed their NLI in November during the fall signing period.

Detroit Mercy is coming off a memorable 18-14 season, which included a perfect 9-0 home Horizon League mark and a trip to the Horizon League Championship game at Joe Louis Arena.
