Titan Strength & Conditioning Improves With Equipment Upgrades

DETROIT (9/12/2017) -- The University of Detroit Mercy Strength & Conditioning room received a facelift this summer with the addition of several new pieces of equipment and tools prior to the 2017-18 school year.

Director of Strength & Conditioning Nick Wilson and his staff purchased and implemented the tools into their programs for use by all 19 Division I programs and their student-athletes.

"The upgrades to our strength and conditioning room were necessary as we continue to improve and evolve as a program," Wilson said. "We want our student-athletes to use the best and most up-to-date products and equipment available, which is why we made the upgrades prior to the 2017-18 school year."

Among them were two VertiMax, a Perform X training system, a VersaClimber, a Pit Shark and Sorinex Rollers. During Wilson's tenure at Detroit Mercy, he and his staff have also implemented Prairie Farms Chocolate Milk to help the student-athletes in their post-workout recovery.

The VertiMax is a popular and versatile training tool that allows student-athletes to train jumping and landing mechanics under resistance in a way that translates directly to sport.

The Perform X training system allows the strength and conditioning department the ability to convert our existing platforms into added stations to continue to work on jumping and landing mechanics with the various Detroit Mercy teams.

The VersaClimber is a piece of cardio equipment that was highly sought after for the strength and conditioning room. It provides a true, total body, non-impact workout that will benefit all our athletes where they are in season or out.

The Pit Shark is a squat tool that can be used without putting pressure on the neck, shoulders or spine. It can be used in multiple ways and will fit into most programs for the majority of the student-athletes.

The Sorinex Rollers are probably the most versatile piece of equipment in the strength and conditioning room. It consists of a simple metal bar and roller skate wheels that can be used in a variety of ways from leg curls to ab rollouts to shoulders.
