COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (4/28/2020) -- Eight University of Detroit Mercy student-athletes were recognized for their standout performances in strength and conditioning as they have all received 2020 NSCA All-American Strength & Conditioning Athlete of the Year honors, it was announced by the organization earlier in April.
The National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) recognizes collegiate and high school athletes, whose athletic accomplishments, in the opinion of their strength coach, reflect the dedication to strength training and conditioning. These athletes are also recognized for their academic and personal accomplishments and their integrity as student-athletes.
Kyri Jackson of women's track and field,
Alex Jarzembowski of men's lacrosse,
Eric Leduc of men's track and field,
Sophie Mapes of women's soccer,
B.J. Maxwell of men's basketball,
Alan Nava of men's cross country and track and field,
Sami Nouri of men's soccer and
Jiera Shears of women's basketball all earn the honors for the 2019-20 school year.
Jackson was a Horizon League champion in track and field this season, winning the 60-meter hurdles in a school-record time of 8.61, while also placing third in the long jump and fifth in the 200-meter dash. Jarzembowski was No. 21 in the country in face-off win percentage (60.3) as he helped the Titans to 16th in the country in that category.
Leduc won the weight throw twice during the indoor track and field season before finishing fifth at the Horizon League Championships with a throw of 17.03 meters (55 feet, 10.5 inches).
