COLUMBUS, Ohio (9/26/2017) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's soccer team rallied from down two goals to earn a hard-fought 2-2 draw at No. 16-ranked Ohio State on Tuesday night.

It was all the more impressive in the way they did it, out-shooting the Buckeyes and ending Ohio State's six-game shutout streak.

Down 2-0 early in the game, Detroit Mercy (5-2-2 overall) was undeterred, scoring in the 33rd minute with senior Spiro Pliakos finishing off a cross from sophomore Jake Reitzloff, that was flicked across in the box by senior Tyler Moorman. Pliakos' seventh goal of the season cut the OSU lead to 2-1.

Detroit Mercy added a goal in the 64th minute when sophomore Aleks Vushaj pushed across a rebound after junior Grant Harrison initially hit the post with a shot. It was the first collegiate goal for Vushaj and first career point for Harrison.

Earlier in the half, Moorman hit the post with a shot and freshman Kyle Bandyk had two great looks off a corner kick, but his first look was saved at the line and his second went just wide left on the post.

Junior goalkeeper Josh Flamme played all 110 minutes in net in his first start of the season for the Titans. He made one save and faced 15 Ohio State shots.

After no shots during the first overtime frame, Detroit Mercy had two looks during the second overtime. Sophomore Max Becker put a shot on net that was saved, while Reitzloff ripped a shot that was blocked. Ohio State had a corner kick with just over one minute left, but the Titans were able to clear the ball as the last serious scoring threat of the match.

Spiro Pliakos had to exit the game immediately following his goal with an injury. He did not return to the match.

Moorman had a game-high five shots, including two shots on goal. Graduate transfer Dalton Amez, junior Grant Harrison and freshman forward Demetri Pliakos, making his first collegiate start, all recorded two shots for the Titans.

The Titans outshot the Buckeyes 7-4 in the first half and 17-15 in the game. Both teams had seven corner kicks in the game. Detroit Mercy had eight looks on goal, the most given up by Ohio State all season. The Buckeyes had allowed just 14 shots on goal in their previous six matches.
