FAIRBORN, Ohio (1/26/2018) -- Redshirt junior
Kameron Chatman netted a game-high 24 points, but Wright State was too strong early on as the University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team dropped an 87-55 contest at the Nutter Center on Friday.
Chatman was 8-of-13 from the field with four 3-pointers and also had a team-high six rebounds and three assists. Senior
DeShawndre Black added five points and junior
Josh McFolley had three points, four rebounds and three helpers.
The Titans had 17 field goals and 12 were from behind the arc, the fifth-straight game they have hit double-digit 3-pointers.Â
Detroit Mercy (6-16, 2-7 HL) fell behind by as many as 21 in the first half, but cut it to 10 late in the stanza.Â
The Titans hit some shots early in the second, including treys from Chatman and sophomore
Cole Long, but Wright State (16-6, 8-1 HL) never relinquished the lead.
Detroit Mercy will be back in action on Sunday as it travels to Northern Kentucky in a 1 p.m. tip. Â
First Half:
- Wright State got off to a fast start taking a 23-5 lead a little more than seven minutes into the game.
- Chatman ended that with a 3-pointer, but Wright State would take a 31-10 lead midway through the first half.
- Wright State also led by 21 at 38-17 when the Titans went on an 11-0 run to get back in the game.
- Black started that with a layup and then after a couple of defensive stands, he got the ball back and connected on a three.Â
- Another stop on defense saw the Titans come down the floor, where sophomore Malik Eichler drilled a triple, and then a defensive rebound from Chatman led to a trey from McFolley and the Titans were down just 38-28 with 1:53 left.
- Chatman had 11 points, five rebounds and three assists at the break. Â
Second Half:
- A 3-pointer by Long got the Titans back within 13, 44-31, at the 19:24 mark.Â
- A minute later, Chatman hit from deep to make it a 48-34 game.Â
- Wright State then went on a 13-1 spurt over the next six minutes to take control of the game.Â
- Chatman hit two more 2-pointers in the second half.
- Redshirt freshman Jacob Joubert nailed a triple with 2:48 remaining for his first collegiate basket.Â

- Wright State leads the all-time series, 31-26
- The Titan coaching staff participated in the 25th Anniversary of Coaches vs. Cancer by wearing sneakers with their suits and also having gold laces for Lace Up With Lacey and a special commemorative pin and tie
- After going three games in a row knocking in no more than six treys, the Titans have now hit 10 or more triples in five-straight games and have now hit 10 or more 3-pointers in 12 games this season
- Junior Gerald Blackshear Jr. missed the game with an undisclosed injury
- Chatman has now posted nine 20-point games on the season, third in the Horizon League
