"Hoop Night in the D" Set for Friday, Oct. 19

DETROIT (10/2/2018) -- Get a first look at the University of Detroit Mercy men's and women's basketball teams on Friday, Oct. 19, as the Department of Athletics hosts its annual "Hoop Night in the D" basketball event from Calihan Hall.

Admission into the event is free and is set to begin at 7 p.m. on Oct. 19. The doors will open at 6 p.m. and free pizza will be available for students with a valid student I.D. For those arriving early, the Titan fencing team will put on a demonstration at 6:40 p.m. for fan entertainment prior to the start of Hoop Night. 

Students and fans in attendance will be eligible to win prizes, including a grand prize Xbox One bundle with NBA 2K19, as well as other gear giveaways and raffles. The gift shop will be open with 25-percent off all merchandise in the store for fans and students in attendance.

Both Titan basketball teams will take part in skills competitions, a 3-point contest, dunk contest and other scrimmages and games - including a dance contest against the men and women. A live DJ will be in attendance for the event.

The Titan men's basketball squad is entering its first season under head coach Mike Davis, while the Detroit Mercy women's basketball team is under the guidance of head coach Bernard Scott in his fourth season.
