DETROIT (10/6/2018) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's soccer team used two first-half goals to help earn a 2-2 draw in double overtime with visiting Horizon League foe Green Bay on Saturday afternoon from Titan Field. The match start was delayed 40 minutes due to lightning.

The Titans (0-4-1 HL) got off to a terrific start in their fifth Horizon League match of the 2018 campaign with junior James Solomon firing home a strike past the keeper and inside the post in the ninth minute of the match to put Detroit Mercy up 1-0. It was Solomon's first collegiate goal.

Detroit Mercy nearly added another goal just minutes later when junior Jake Reitzloff boomed a shot from just outside the box that was heading for the net, but Green Bay keeper Nikola Kahvedzic made a sprawling save.

Just two minutes before the halftime break, the Titans added another goal to go up 2-0 as junior Justin Schueneman sent a cross to redshirt freshman Ben Al-Gharabally, who fired a left-footed shot from inside the box past the keeper and inside the far post. Al-Gharabally's second goal of the season gave Detroit Mercy a 2-0 halftime lead.

Green Bay evened the match up with two goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half. After scoring on a give-and-go in the 48th minute, the Phoenix scored their second marker after Detroit Mercy misplayed a ball in its own end that resulted in an own goal. Detroit Mercy had two more shots in the second half of the match, with junior Garret Weaver's header going wide of the post in the 72nd minute and redshirt sophomore Collin Cavanaugh's shot also going wide in the 75th minute.

The Phoenix had probably the best chance of overtime with just 5 seconds left on the clock, earning a free kick from 35 yards out, but the kick into the box by Green Bay was headed away by the Titans. There was just one shot on goal in overtime, by Green Bay in the 109th minute, but Detroit Mercy keeper Devin Mendez made one of his three saves on the day.

Solomon led the squad with three shots total and two shots on goal. Sophomore defender Justin Murray added two shots. Both Green Bay and Detroit Mercy had 11 shots total in the match, with 14 of the 22 combined shots coming in the first half alone. Both teams had four corner kicks, while Detroit Mercy was whistled for 20 fouls to Green Bay's 12.
