INDIANAPOLIS (11/2/2018) -- University of Detroit Mercy student-athletes
Grant Harrison (Macomb, Mich. / Eisenhower) and
Garret Weaver (Northville, Mich.) each received 2018 Horizon League Men's Soccer All-Academic Team accolades it was announced Friday by the league office.
Harrison, a senior defender, and Weaver, a junior defender, were among the 11 members honored on the HL All-Academic Team for the 2018 season.
Weaver has started in all 17 matches for the Titans and leads the squad in minutes played (1,549). The junior co-captain and three-year starter has one goal on the season and 12 shots total from the back line. Weaver has a 3.83 GPA in Biology with a Pre-Med concentration and is the active leader on the squad in games started with 48.
Harrison is wrapping up his Titan career and has played in all 17 contests, starting 14 of them this season for Detroit Mercy. He has one assist and has played in 57 career matches (47 starts) during his Titan career. He holds a 3.71 GPA and is working towards his Master's of Business Administration. A Second Team All-Horizon League defender in 2017, Harrison was one of 30 men's soccer student-athletes across the country to receive consideration for the annual Senior Class Award.
It's the fifth-straight season that Detroit Mercy has had multiple players earn recognition on the Horizon League Men's Soccer All-Academic Team. Detroit Mercy, which ranked fifth in the nation in GPA in 2017-18 at 3.51, put five student-athletes on the HL All-Academic Team in each of the past two seasons and has 16 total honorees in the past five seasons.
The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for Academic All-Horizon League consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale) and have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits.
Detroit Mercy wraps up the 2018 season today, hosting Horizon League foe Cleveland State at 3 p.m. on Senior Day from Titan Field.
