INDIANAPOLIS (11/12/2018) -- After a record-breaking start to begin his collegiate career, University of Detroit Mercy guard
Antoine Davis was named the Horizon League Freshman of the Week on Monday.
Davis averaged 31.0 points on 48.9 percent shooting, including 44.4 percent from three, along with 2.5 assists and 1.5 rebounds per game. He posted back-to-back 30-point games – the first Titan to do that since the 2007-08 season - and scored the most points by a Titan freshman in his collegiate debut.Â
Davis tallied a team-high 32 points in the season opener at Western Michigan, where he knocked down six 3-pointers en route to the biggest debut game by a freshman in school history and the second biggest scoring output by any Titan in their debut, behind only junior college transfer and NBA Hall-Of-Famer Spencer Haywood's 36 points against Aquinas in 1968.Â
He followed that up with six more triples and 30 points on the road at Temple, where he had 19 at the half and helped the red, white and blue to a 41-37 lead at the break.
Through the first week of play, he ranks seventh in the nation in scoring and tied for second with 12 made 3-pointers.
Detroit Mercy will be back in action tonight as the Titans visit Butler at 6:30 p.m. and the game will be televised live on FOX Sports 1 or you can listen to the radio on 910 AM Superstation. Â
