DETROIT (11/19/2018) -- Freshman
Antoine Davis was nothing short of spectacular in his home opener as the rookie set a Titan freshman record with 42 points, tied a school record with 10 triples and helped his dad win his first game as a head coach at Detroit Mercy in a 91-63 victory over Loyola Maryland on Monday night in the Gotprint.Com Legends Classic Subregional, presented by Old Trapper.
Davis was 14-of-21 overall and 10-of-14 from the outside to go with five assists, three rebounds and two steals. The 10 treys tied him with Desmond Ferguson, who had 10 against Milwaukee in 2000, while the 42 points are the most by a Titan since Willie green had 43 at UIC in 2003 and the sixth most in school history.
Graduate senior
Derrien King had 17 points, four rebounds and two assists along with a block and a steal. Senior
Josh McFolley tallied 12 points, four assists and three boards and junior
Tra'Quan Knight registered a season-high 10 points with six caroms and three assists.
Detroit Mercy (1-3) had an early nine-point lead in the first half, but saw Loyola Maryland (1-4) take a 37-36 lead at the break.
The Titans came out on fire in the second half, going on a 20-9 spurt in the first five minutes, with Davis nailing five three's in that run and King also sinking a couple of trifectas for a 59-46 advantage.
Loyola Maryland would get within nine, 60-51, but the red, white and blue did not allow its Jesuit-rivals to get any closer, running its lead into the high 20's.
As a team, the Titans shot 52.4 percent from the field and 60.7 percent from the outside, tying a school record with 17 made 3-pointers. They also won the battle of the boards, 40-33, had 17 assists on 33 baskets and held the Greyhounds to 38.7 percent shooting.
The Titans will now move into the championship game of the Gotprint.Com Legends Classic Subregional, presented by Old Trapper, and face Bowling Green tomorrow at 7:30 p.m., while Loyola Maryland will square off with Hampton at 5 p.m.

Game Notes:
- This was just the second career meeting between these two Jesuit schools with the first occurring 70 years ago, a 66-58 victory by the Greyhounds on Dec. 22, 1948, the first season with legendary head coach Bob Calihan at the helm of his alma mater
- The Titans and Greyhounds are also two of the 20 Jesuit programs that are Division I and two of the 28 Jesuit Universities in the United States
- Detroit Mercy is 208-238 all-time against its fellow Jesuit brothers
- The Titans also hit 17 treys against Siena Heights last season
- Detroit Mercy's 33 field goals were the most since netting 36 against Green Bay last year in the regular-season finale
- Knight came into the contest with just five total points on the year, but scored 10 with a season-high six rebounds
- King's 17 points were the most since he had a career-high 22 as a member of Washington State against Montana State in 2016
