Titans Visit Bowling Green for Monday Night Tilt

DETROIT (12/15/2018) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball squad returns to play Monday night on the road, traveling to Bowling Green for a non-conference contest against the Falcons. The game is set to start at 7 p.m. from Stroh Center and may also be seen live via ESPN3.com and the WatchESPN Applications.

Detroit Mercy is playing Bowling Green for the second time in as many seasons and 25th time overall in women's basketball. The Titans are in the middle of a stretch against the Mid-American Conference (MAC) and also play at Toledo later next week on Friday, Dec. 21. The Titans open Horizon League play the following Friday, hosting Youngstown State from Calihan Hall.

• Detroit Mercy and Bowling Green are meeting for the 25th time in women's basketball. The Titans are 10-14 all-time against the Falcons, with the last win coming in 2001.

Last Time Out
The Titans rallied after a slow first-quarter start but were unable to overtake Western Michigan on Sunday, Dec. 9 in a 54-44 loss at home. It was the final non-conference home game at Calihan Hall and second-straight against the Mid-American Conference.

Freshman Jess Bicknell led the Titans in scoring for the second-straight contest, totaling 12 points in her second career collegiate start. Freshman classmate Paige Bellman added 11 rebounds -- tying her career-high. Freshman Jiera Shears added a career-high nine points in the fourth quarter for the Titans.

Detroit Mercy couldn't get it going early, trailing by double digits after the first quarter, but out-scored WMU in the final three frames, 42-36. The Titan defense forced the Broncos into a season-high 22 turnovers and the red, white and blue tallied 12 steals overall. It was the seventh time in nine games that the Titans have held their opponent to 60 points or less.

Titan Thievery
The Titans have 37 steals in the past three games -- swiping 16 against Omaha at home, netting nine more steals against Eastern Michigan on Dec. 5 and adding 12 against Western Michigan on Dec. 9. Detroit Mercy has tallied five games of nine or more steals through nine games this season:

Paige Bellman leads the Titans and the Horizon League in steals with 20, while teammate Zoey Oatis has 13 steals, including a career-best five against Omaha. Sophia DiMilia is averaging 1.3 steals per game and Lexey Tobel and Jess Bicknell each have nine steals. Five players have more than nine steals this season.

Scouting Bowling Green
Bowling Green is currently 4-4 under new head coach Robyn Fralick, who was hired over the summer after a highly-successful stint at Division II Ashland.

The Falcons are 3-0 at home this season, winning three straight against Marshall, Robert Morris and Loyola (Ill.). BGSU also earned a 74-53 road victory at Canisius in its last game on Dec. 8.

Freshman guard Morgan McMillen leads the squad in scoring at 17.5 points per game. Two others average in double figures -- sophomore Angela Perry and junior Andrea Cecil. Freshman Kadie Hempfling is pulling down 9.0 rebounds per contest. Bowling Green has sank 79 triples in eight games, averaging just under 10 per game. McMillen leads the squad with 29 treys.

All-Time Series
The Titans are 10-14 all-time against Bowling Green and have dropped the last eight meetings in the series. Detroit Mercy's last victory over BGSU came in 2001 in a home victory at Calihan Hall. The Titans' last road triumph was on Dec. 2, 2000.

Detroit Mercy is 0-1 under coach Scott against the Falcons as the Titans were edged 85-81 last season at home on the third annual Field Trip Day game.

Detroit Mercy travels to nearby Toledo for the final non-conference contest of 2018, playing the Rockets on Friday, Dec. 21 at 7 p.m. from Savage Arena.
