Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Titans Fall At Dayton

DAYTON, Ohio (12/4/2018) -- An early run by Dayton in the first half had the Titans behind and another in the second half was too much to overcome as the University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team was tripped up by the Flyers, 98-59, on Tuesday.

Freshman Antoine Davis led the team with 18 points, four rebounds and four assists. Junior Lamar Hamrick had a season-high 16 points with two assists and two rebounds and junior Tra'Quan Knight tallied eight points.

The Titans (3-6) had an early 11-9 lead, but a run by Dayton (5-3) opened up a double-digit lead for the Flyers in the first half.

Detroit Mercy tried to get back in the game, but Dayton was just too strong, finishing the game shooting 68.5 percent.

Graduate senior Derrien King added eight points and four boards and graduate senior Jacob Holland posted seven

The Titans will be back in action tomorrow as they play at Toledo with tip-off slated for 7 p.m.

First Half:
  • A layup from Holland and a 3-pointer from senior Josh McFolley had the Titans up 5-2
  • Another three from King had the Titans in front, 8-7, a little more than three minutes into the contest
  • Davis pushed the red, white and blue ahead again with a triple to make it 11-9 at the 15:03 mark
  • Dayton then went on a 21-2 run over the next seven minute to take a 30-13 advantage
  • The Flyers led by as many as 23 before entering the half up 49-29

Second Half:
  • Back-to-back layups by Hamrick had the Titans down 52-33, early in the period
  • From there, Dayton pushed its lead into the 20's again and into the 30's late in the game

Game Notes:
  • Detroit Mercy and Dayton were longtime rivals as both began their basketball programs in the early 1900's and had their first meeting in 1914-15
  • They became conference foes for five years between 1988-93 as both were in the Midwestern Collegiate Conference.
  • Dayton now leads the all-time series, 34-29, including 23-9 in Dayton
  • Davis saw his streak of 20-point games come to an end at eight
  • Hamrick had 13 in the season opener at Western Michigan
