EVANSTON, Ill. (2/11/2018) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team opened the 2018 season Sunday afternoon, playing outside on the shores of Lake Michigan with the Titans falling to No. 11-ranked Northwestern, 21-2.
It was the first meeting between the two programs during the regular season.
The Titans scored both of their goals in the second half -- the first from freshman
Meredith Moore off an assist from redshirt-sophomore
Kaitlyn Wandelt. Junior attacker
Lexie Kinmond added a free-position goal late in the contest.
Kinmond had three of the six Titan draw controls in the contest. Senior defender
Lauren Webley totaled four ground balls and three caused turnovers, junior
Morgan Girardi and Wandelt each corralled two ground balls and junior goalkeeper
Allison McDonough tallied eight saves, five ground balls and three caused turnovers for the Titans.
Detroit Mercy took all three free-position shots in the contest, going 1-of-3. The Titans had six draw controls overall, five of them coming in the first half. Detroit Mercy also controlled 14 ground balls, nine of them in the second half.

Meghan Godell.
Senior attacker
Jessica Snyder led the squad with two shots on goal. The Titans had 10 shots overall, five of them on net. Northwestern posted 35 shots in the contest.
Several players made their collegiate debuts in the game --

Kristina Ellis,
Sarah Lucas, Moore. Ellis and Moore both started in their collegiate debuts with Moore collecting a draw control in addition to scoring the first Titan goal of the year.

Detroit Mercy returns to action on Friday, Feb. 16, playing another Big Ten foe, Ohio State, in Columbus, Ohio. The game is set for a 7 p.m. start from the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. It's the second of three matchups with Big Ten opponents in 2018 for the Titans.
