DETROIT (2/17/2018) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball team suffered a 91-59 setback to visiting IUPUI on Saturday afternoon, falling in the first game between the new league foes at Calihan Hall.

Sophomore guard Anja Marinkovic led Detroit Mercy in scoring for the second consecutive game, sinking four 3-pointers and scoring a team-high 17 points. Senior forward Brianne Cohen added 13 points for the Titans, while junior guard Gracie Roberts scored a career-high eight points.

IUPUI scored the first seven points of the contest, but Detroit Mercy scored the next six with freshman Lexey Tobel and Cohen hitting back-to-back 3-pointers for the Titans. Marinkovic connected on her first trey late in the stanza and then converted on a jumper from the wing late in the first, but IUPUI held a 21-13 lead after the first quarter.

Marinkovic knocked down a triple to open the second quarter and Cohen drilled her second of the game midway through the frame as Detroit Mercy trailed by just seven, 28-21, with 5:05 left in the opening half. The Jaguars would close the first half on a run, however, to take a 44-25 halftime lead.

Marinkovic hit her third and fourth 3-pointers of the game early in the third quarter -- both off assists from senior guard Nicole Urbanick, who tied a season-best with five assists. Sophomore Zoey Oatis then scored five-straight points midway through the third, hitting Detroit Mercy's eighth 3-pointer of the game. The Jaguars continued their offensive pressure however, to take a 74-44 lead after three quarters.

Tobel and Roberts each hit 3-pointers in the fourth quarter as Detroit Mercy finished the game 10-of-24 from beyond the arc (41.7 percent). Roberts scored all eight of her career-high eight points in the fourth quarter. She scored on consecutive lay-ups and then hit a free throw before nailing the Titans' 10th 3-pointer.

Roberts was 3-of-4 from the floor, while Oatis finished 3-for-3 for seven points. Urbanick had five assists and no turnovers, while Roberts led Detroit Mercy in rebounds with five and steals with two. Marinkovic hit 4-of-7 3-pointers in the contest.

Overall, Detroit Mercy shot 38 percent from the floor (21-of-55), while IUPUI was 33-of-64 (51.6 percent) from the field during the contest. The Jaguars had the advantage in rebounding (45-26) and also went 16-of-21 from the free throw line.
