Titans Upended By Milwaukee

DETROIT (2/22/2018) -- Sophomore Corey Allen scored 13 points and junior Josh McFolley added 11, but Milwaukee was able to rev up its offense in the second half as the Titans fell to the Panthers, 72-49, at Calihan Hall on Thursday.

The loss drops the Titans to 8-22 overall and 4-12 in the Horizon League as the red, white and blue will be the 10th seed at Motor City Madness when the Horizon League Men's Basketball Championship opens up next Friday, March 2, at Little Caesars Arena. Detroit Mercy will play at 5:30 p.m. although its opponent is still to be determined.

Allen also had five rebounds and freshman Jermaine Jackson Jr. tallied six points, six caroms and two assists. Redshirt junior Kameron Chatman had six points and a team-high seven boards and sophomore Malik Eichler finished with a season-tying six points and three rebounds.

Milwaukee (15-15, 8-9 HL) started the game on a 7-0 run and led by as many as 12 in the first half before the Titans trimmed it to five and trailed at the break, 32-25.

In the second half, the Titans fought hard and trailed by just eight, 47-39, with 12:30 left, but the Panthers went on a run to take over the game.

The final game of the regular season will be on Saturday, Feb. 24, as the Titans host Green Bay at 2 p.m. It will be Senior Day at Calihan Hall as the Titans honor their four-member elder class in DeShawndre Black, Jaleel Hogan, Isaiah Jones and Roschon Prince.

First Half:
  • Milwaukee started the game on a 7-0 run just two minutes into the contest.
  • Allen ended that with a triple, but Milwaukee was able to open a double-digit lead at 13-3.
  • A 7-0 run by the Titans got the team within three, 13-10, as Eichler had a layup, Allen knocked down another three and Jackson Jr. hit a floater.
  • The Titans later made it a two-point game, 15-13, as Eichler nailed a trey at the 10:59 mark.
  • The Panthers were able to up their advantage to 12, 30-18, with 4:58 left when the red, white and blue went on another 7-0 charge.
  • Allen started it with a 3-pointer and after two free throws from sophomore Cole Long,  the Titans forced a Milwaukee empty possession and a layup from Long made it 30-25 with 1:25 remaining.
  • Allen had nine points to lead the Titans at the half, while Eichler had six points.

Second Half:
  • Chatman scored the first points in the second half to make it a 32-27 game.
  • Milwaukee then went up by 15, 47-32, with 14:30 left in the period.
  • The Titans went on their third 7-0 run of the contest as McFolley drilled a triple and then went inside for a layup and off a defensive rebound, Jackson Jr. had a layup to get the team within eight, 47-39, at the 12:30 mark.
  • From there, the Panthers were able to hold off the Titan offense and extended their lead to as many as 25.

Game Notes:
  • The Titans trail the all-time series 29-23
  • McFolley is now seven points away from becoming the 42nd Titan in school history to reach 1,000 career points
  • Jackson Jr.'s six rebounds was the most since pulling down six against Wright State in January, while his season high is seven in his collegiate debut at Virginia Tech
  • Eichler's career high in minutes played was 17 at Wright State this season, while he also scored six points against Siena Heights
  • Allen was in double figures for the 20th time in his 27 games on the season
