Brett Erskine each tallied two goals and an assist, but the nationally-ranked Golden Eagles of Marquette took an early lead and the Titans could not come back as the University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse team fell, 13-6, on Saturday afternoon at Wisner Stadium.

Alex Akins all had a pair of caused turnovers and Hayes also picked up a team-best four ground balls. Junior

Logan Shamblin made nine saves in net.
Marquette (2-0) took a 3-0 lead early on and led 7-3 at the break. Detroit Mercy (1-3) was down 10-3 late in the third before cutting the deficit in half with two-straight goals.
The Titans were outshot, 45-21, but saw Marquette commit 14 turnovers. The red, white and blue were also 14-of-17 on clears.
Detroit Mercy will be back in action next week, March 2-4, as the Titans host the 4th Annual Midwest Classic at Wisner Stadium. The event will open up on Friday, March 2, with Detroit Mercy playing Bellarmine at 1 p.m., before Marquette and Ohio State face each other at 5 p.m.
On Sunday, March 4, Marquette will square off against Bellarmine and the Titans will close the event hosting Ohio State at 2 p.m.

First Period:
- Marquette scored three goals within three minutes to take a 3-0 lead at the 9:49 mark.
- The Titans answered with a pair of strikes late in the opening period as Walsh had an unassisted marker with 4:34 left, and that was followed by Erskine's first goal off a pass from junior Emmett Green with just under a minute to go.
Second Period:
- The Golden Eagles struck for four-straight goals to open the period, but off a faceoff victory, Erskine ended the run by taking a pass from Gilhooly and beating the keeper with 4:26 remaining in the half.
- Hayes caused two turnovers down the stretch to limit the Marquette opportunities and help make it a 7-3 game at the break.
Third Period:
- Marquette started another period hot with three scores before the Titans got on the board as a save by Shamblin led to an opportunity and Erskine found Gilhooly and he netted a goal at the 2:43 mark.
- A little more than a minute later, Birney found Walsh and he fired one in to make it 10-5.
Fourth Period:
- Marquette scored three goals in the fourth, despite Shamblin making four saves in the period.
- The last Titan score came with 2:44 on the clock as Gilhooly found the back of the net.
Game Notes:
- The Titans now trail the all-time series, 6-0
- Detroit Mercy and Marquette are two of just eight Jesuit schools playing Division I lacrosse. The others are MAAC-rival Canisius, Fairfield, Georgetown, Holy Cross, Loyola (Md.) and St. Joseph's
- The Titans have played four of the other seven Jesuit institutions in Canisius, Marquette, Georgetown and Saint Joseph's
- Gilhooly now has 34 career goals and 49 career points
- Walsh also had two goals at Robert Morris last season
- Erskine now has two goals and an assist in three-straight games
- Akins and Hayes now have a caused turnover in every game this season
