CONWAY, S.C. (4/19/2018) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team dropped a non-conference game in their third-straight game in South Carolina on Thursday afternoon, falling at Coastal Carolina, 14-6.

The Titans (8-7 overall) scored the first two goals of the game as junior Morgan Girardi scored just 1:05 into the contest off a feed from redshirt sophomore Kaitlyn Wandelt. The reigning SoCon Offensive Player of the Week, Wandelt, then scored at the 22:43 mark of the first half on a pass from freshman Meredith Moore with Detroit Mercy taking a 2-0 advantage.

Coastal Carolina would score the next four goals on its home turf to take a 4-2 lead with 13 minutes left in the first half.

The Titans then struck back with senior attacker Jessica Snyder receiving a pass in the eight-meter from freshman attacker Kristina Ellis and firing the ball into the back of the net. Junior attacker Lexie Kinmond followed just two minutes later, ripping a side-armed shot into the net, scoring on a free-position chance and tying the game up 4-4 with 6:05 left in the first half.

The Chanticleers would get one more goal before halftime to hold a 5-4 edge at the break. After halftime, Coastal Carolina scored the first three goals to take an 8-4 lead with 20 minutes left in the game. Girardi then scored her second goal on a free-position opportunity to cut the CCU lead to three, 8-5, but the Chanticleers scored the next four goals to go up 12-5 with 4:07 remaining.

Wandelt scored her second goal of the game with 3:23 left, giving her a three-point effort on the day. She scored goals No. 50 and 51 on the season during the contest and put all six shots on goal during the game. Girardi finished with two goals, while Kinmond also had a two-point game with one goal and one assist.

Girardi and senior defender Brittany Fenney each finished with two draw controls, while Ellis and senior defender Emma Mucci both had three ground balls. In goal, junior Allison McDonough turned away nine shots for the Titans.

Detroit Mercy held a 16-12 shot advantage in the first half, but the Chanticleers finished with the edge in shots, 31-25. The Titans were 15-of-20 on clear attempts and did help force Coastal Carolina into 22 turnovers. Coastal Carolina was credited with 15 saves in the contest.

Detroit Mercy returns to the field on Sunday for its regular-season road finale, playing a non-conference contest at Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va. Opening draw for the game is slated for Noon. The Titans conclude their regular season at home Saturday, April 28 against SoCon rival Central Michigan.
