Quinnipiac University secured the 2018 MAAC Men's Lacrosse Regular Season title and a perfect record (6-0) in conference play. The Bobcats will be the No. 1 overall seed in the MAAC Men's Lacrosse Championship for the second time in the last three seasons. It is also the second time over the course of the last three years that Quinnipiac has ran the table in conference play.
No. 1 seed Quinnipiac (9-5, 6-0 MAAC) faces No. 4 seed Canisius College (6-8, 3-3 MAAC) in the first semifinal matchup of the championship on Thursday, May 3, at noon on ESPN+. The Bobcats defeated the Griffs, 19-14 in their lone regular season meeting on April 14. The 19 tallies were tied for the conference-high for goals in a single-game this season.
It is the fourth time that the Bobcats have earned the No. 1 seed in the MAAC Men's Lacrosse Championship. Canisius enters the field of play as the No. 4 seed for the third time in its history.
The semifinal meeting between the two teams marks just the second time in MAAC Championship history that they have gone head-to-head. Quinnipiac defeated Canisius, 13-7, on May 5, 2016, in the semifinals.
No. 2 Seed Detroit Mercy (8-6, 5-1 MAAC) takes on No. 3 Monmouth (7-7, 4-2 MAAC). The second MAAC Men's Lacrosse Championship semifinal takes place on Thursday, May 3, at 3 p.m. on ESPN+. The Titans edged the Hawks, 9-8, in overtime in their lone meeting of the regular season on March 24. Freshman midfield
Brennan Kamish scored the game-winning goal in the extra frame.
The Titans have now qualified for the MAAC Championship in seven of their nine years in the MAAC, missing out only in the program's first year of league competition in 2010 as well as in 2016.
Detroit Mercy is 3-5 all-time in the MAAC Championship winning the event and earning its lone NCAA Tournament berth in 2013 with an 11-10 overtime win against Siena, while reaching the title game in 2011 and dropping a 12-3 contest to the Saints.
The red, white and blue will go into the event as the No. 2 seed for just the second time in its history. The only other time was in 2012 when they fell to third-seeded Canisius, 12-10.
