DETROIT (4/6/2018) -- Five Titans tallied hat tricks and the University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team shut out visiting Delaware State in the second half of Friday's 21-5 victory from Titan Field. The Titans improved to 1-1 in Southern Conference play with the 16-goal victory over the Hornets.

Senior attacker Lauren Sharkey had one of the five hat tricks and tallied a team and career-high six points. Freshman attacker Kristina Ellis added career-highs in both goals (four) and points (five), while junior midfielder Morgan Girardi added five points on three goals and two assists. Redshirt sophomore Kaitlyn Wandelt and freshman Meredith Moore also had hat tricks with three goals each.

Junior Emma Leszczak had three points on two goals, one assist, and senior Jessica Snyder, junior Ali Magyaros and freshman Kamryn Corraro all each had one goal and one assist for the Titans. Detroit Mercy assisted on 12 of its 21 goals on the afternoon, totaling a season-high 46 shots, 36 of them on net.

The Titans scored the first 10 goals of the game, with eight different players finding the back of the net. Sharkey had three points during the 10-0 stretch, while Girardi and Sharkey each had two goals during the run. Detroit Mercy led 10-0 with 14:28 left in the first half.

Sharkey recorded a hat trick by halftime, netting her third goal at the 3:41 mark of the first half. Wandelt added another just under one minute later and Detroit Mercy held a 12-5 halftime advantage over the Hornets.

The red, white and blue scored all nine goals in the second half of action with Wandelt opening the scoring just one minute into the frame. Ellis had three second-half goals and Leszczak scored twice in the final 10 minutes of the game to help close out the scoring and seal the victory.

Freshman goalkeeper Maddie Johnson played the majority of the game in net, turning away six shots for the Titans and allowing just five goals. Moore was dominant on both ends, totaling five ground balls and four caused turnovers, to lead the Titans in both. Girardi added three caused turnovers, while senior Emma DeYoung posted two caused turnovers.

Detroit Mercy racked up 15 caused turnovers and 29 ground balls in all. Girardi had five draw controls, with Wandelt adding four DC and Corraro collecting three draw controls. The Titans held the edge in the draw category, 16-12, while forcing 22 Delaware State turnovers. Detroit Mercy was also 16-of-17 on clears and finished the game 5-of-10 on free-position shots.

Wandelt added four ground balls, while a slew of Titans had three. Corraro, Girardi, sophomores Meghan Godell and Tegan McManus, and Sharkey all each corralled three ground balls during the contest.
