DETROIT (8/17/2018) -- The start of school is just two weeks away, but a few University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse players have been busy all season long in the Canadian Indoor Leagues.

Senior Matthew Vangalen started the year playing for the Oakville Titans in the Ontario Sr. B Lacrosse League before moving to the Oakville Rock in the Major Series Lacrosse Senior A League.

With the Titans, he played in six games and tallied 29 points on 18 goals and 11 assists. The move up saw a short adjustment period as he finished the regular season second on the team with 42 points and 19 goals and third with 23 assists. 

Senior Patrick Walsh is also a member of the Oakville Rock and has played primarily on defense, where he has picked up three assists.

Oakland placed second place in the regular season and just reached the championship of the MSL, defeating Six nations, 4-2, and will meet Peterborough for the title. 

In the playoffs, Vangalen notched two goals and three assists in the semifinals round.

Meanwhile, sophomore Brett Erskine suited up for the St. Catharines Athletics in the Ontario Junior A Lacrosse League and helped the team to a third-place finish.

Erskine ended the regular season fifth on the team with 47 points on eight goals and 39 assists, second on the squad. Against Peterborough in the regular season, he had a great game with four goals and five assists and registered a point in every game on the year.

All three players will be back for the Titans this season as Detroit Mercy looks to improve upon its record-breaking 2018 campaign.
