PITTSBURGH (9/2/2018) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's soccer team dropped its second match of the Labor Day weekend Sunday afternoon, falling at host Duquesne on a steamy day by a 3-0 margin from Rooney Field. It was the fourth-straight road match of the 2018 season for the Titans.
Detroit Mercy (1-3) thwarted several Duquesne opportunities early as the Dukes had nine corner kicks in the first 16 minutes of the match. The Dukes scored their first goal on a long, hard shot that deflected off a Titan defender and into the back of the net during the 23rd minute. At the half, Duquesne led 1-0.
The Titans opened the second half with several offensive chance as a pair of sophomore
Demetri Pliakos' corner kicks nearly translated into Detroit Mercy goals. Both corners were met with headers, the first by redshirt sophomore
Justin Murray, which just went high of the bar. Junior defender
Garret Weaver then nearly scored, but his header off a corner kick hit the crossbar.
