DETROIT (1/13/2019) -- To go along perfectly with the Titans big victory over Milwaukee on Saturday, the University of Detroit Mercy honored one of its most devoted fans and alums in the late Reginald Hall as they gave out the annual Titan Reggie Spirit of Detroit Mercy Award to John Deters.
Deters is a 1964 graduate of the University of Detroit and has been a mainstay at Titan games for many years. The former Titan Athletic Club Board President is long-time donor and supporter of Titan athletics and was also a friend of Titan Reggie and was part of the famed "Road Scholars."
Just this past season, he hosted a pregame reception before the Titans played at old rival DaytonÂ
The Titan Reggie Spirit of Detroit Mercy Award was named after the famed alum and one of the greatest and most popular fans, who passed away on Dec. 9, 2015, after a car accident.Â
The award was established during the 2016-17 basketball season and will be presented each year to a person who embodies the late Reggie Hall's "Titan spirit," which includes supporting teams at home and on the road through good times and bad, as Reggie did for many years.Â
Former U-D baseball coach Bob Miller - Hall's baseball coach at the University - was the first to receive the accolade last year.Â
