DETROIT (1/25/2019) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team will look to end a two-game slide as the Titans head back to the home of the Horizon League when they visit Indianapolis, Indiana, and IUPUI on Saturday.
Game time is set for 1 p.m. (EST) and will be broadcast live on ESPN+ as well as over the airwaves on 910 AM Superstation with
Dan Hasty calling all the action.
Through the first eight games, the Horizon League has been as competitive as any conference in the nation with just one game separating a three-way tie for second and a four-way tie for fifth place. Detroit Mercy comes into the game at 8-12 overall and 5-3 in the league, while IUPUI is 12-9, 4-4 in conference play making this a pivotal HL contest.Â
Freshman
Antoine Davis just posted his 14th, 20-point game of the year with 28 at UIC, hitting five triples in the process to run his mark to 96 from behind the arc on the year, tops in Division I and third in school history.
Senior
Gerald Blackshear Jr. is coming off a career-best 13 points with eight rebounds and three steals, while junior
Lamar Hamrick posted 14 points and tied his season high with four steals.

ALL-TIME MATCH-UP
- Despite being just about a four and a half hour drive, the Titans and Jaguars have never faced each other before IUPUI joined the Horizon League last year.Â
- IUPUI moved to Division I in 1998-98 and was independent for two seasons before joining the Mid-Continent (now the Summit League) in 2000-01. Â
NATIONAL ATTENTION
- Antoine Davis was tabbed the Wayman Tisdale National Freshman of the Week on Jan. 8 after a week that saw him average 40.5 points against Wright State and NKU.
- The rookie shot 58.3 percent overall (28-of-48), 54.1 percent from three (13-of-24) and 92.3 percent at the free throw line (12-of-13) netting 48 against Wright State and 33 against NKU.Â
- Davis was selected by CBSSports.com's Matt Norlander, in partnership with the U.S. Basketball Writers Association and he is the first Titan to ever win the accolade.Â
AD GETTING BUCKETS
- Antoine Davis topped the team with 28 points at UIC and has now led the team in scoring 19 times, while sharing the team high with 29 alongside Josh McFolley in one game against Green Bay.Â
- He now has 14, 20-point games, eight 30+ performances and a pair of 40-point efforts in his first 20 collegiate games, the only freshman in school history with two 40-point outings.Â
- He is one of just seven freshmen in Division I to score in double figures in every game.Â
- To start the year, he posted eight-straight 20-point games, the first Titan to have eight-straight games with 20 or more since Willie Green's 10 in a row in 2002-03.
- His eight 30-point games on the season are the most since Archie Tullos had 10 in 1987-88.
ABOUT THAT 48-POINT GAME
- Antoine Davis' season-high 48 points against Wright State was the fourth most in league play in Horizon League history and the most since LaSalle's Kareem Townes had 52 against Loyola (Ill) in 1995.Â
- The 48 points is the sixth most by a league player against any competition in the 40 years of the Horizon League.
- He is also the third freshman since 1996-97 to score at least 48 points joining Oklahoma's Trae Young's 48 points against Oklahoma State last season and St. Peter's Keydren Clark's 48 against Northern Arizona in 2002.
DAVIS ALREADY WITH 3 TITAN FRESHMAN RECORDS
- Freshman Antoine Davis has already taken down three Titan freshman records this season in points in a game (48), 3-pointers in a season (96) and total points (545).
- He passed former Titan great Ray McCallum (446 in 2009-10) and John Long (445 in 1974-75) in the total point category and Corey Allen for points in a game (33) and 3-pointers (79).
HORIZON LEAGUE MARKS
- Freshman Antoine Davis is also attacking some freshman Horizon League records as he already owns the mark for points in a game (48) and 3-pointers in a season (96).Â
- He is currently second in most points by a freshman in Horizon League history as his 545 on the season trails only former UIC standout Dikembe Dixson's 594 in 2015-16.
DAVIS AMONG NATION'S LEADERS
- Freshman Antoine Davis - the six-time HL Freshman of the Week and two-time Player of the Week - comes into the contest leading the nation in three national categories and among the leaders in a few others.
- Davis is second in the nation in scoring at 27.3 points, trailing Campbell's senior guard Chris Clemons' 29.2.Â
- He leads the nation with 96 triples and 4.85, 3-pointers per game and is third in total points (545) and fourth in field goals (188).Â
SHOOTING HIS WAY TO RECORDS
- Freshman Antoine Davis already has 96 triples on the season, a Titan freshman record and already third in school history.Â
- He is chasing the NCAA record for most 3-pointers by a freshman, held by Stephen Curry, who had 122 at Davidson in 2006-07.
WHO WILL START?
- Freshman Willy Isiani became the 11th Titan to start a game this year when he got the nod at UIC.
- The 11 different starters are tied for first in the country with Harvard, Princeton, Incarnate Word and Eastern Washington.Â
OH LORDY HE WENT FOR 40, AGAIN
- Antoine Davis set the Titan freshman mark with 42 points in the win over Loyola Maryland and nearly set the school record with 48 against Wright State.Â
- Davis shot a season-best 15-of-24 from the field and tied his own school record nailing 10-of-15 from three-point land.Â
- The 48 points is the fourth-highest scoring outburst in NCAA Division I this year, and the second most against a Division I opponent.
- Earlier in the season, he registered a Titan freshman record 42 points against Loyola Maryland going 14-of-21 from the field and 10-of-14 from the outside with five assists, three rebounds and two steals.  Â
- The 10 treys tied him with Desmond Ferguson for the school record, who had 10 against Milwaukee in 2000.
- The Titan freshman record was 33 points by Corey Allen against Fort Wayne in 2016.Â
ZONE PRINCIPLES
- The Titans have frustrated teams at times trying to shoot the three ball as they are holding teams to 32.8 percent from behind the arc, fourth in the Horizon League.Â
- Last year, the Titans ended the season ranked 333rd in three-point field goal percentage defense (39.7%).Â
- Overall, the defense has held teams to shooting 44.0 percent or less in 10 games on the year and under 40.0 percent on six occasions, including YSU to just 37.5 percent, CSU to 38.6 percent and WSU to 37.7 percent.Â
HAMRICK TIME
- Junior Lamar Hamrick started off Horizon League play with some all-around performances off the bench, including much-needed rebounding as he is tallying 5.0 boards in conference play to go with 6.3 points and shooting 58.3 percent.
- He is coming off a great game scoring 14 points with four rebounds and four steals hitting 6-of-8 from the field at UIC.Â
- He posted a season and game-high 11 rebounds with six points, three steals and two assists at Cleveland State and that was after recording 10 points and a game-high eight rebounds along with four assists and two steals at Youngstown State.
- He had six rebounds, four points, two assists, a block and a steal against Wright State.
- He started the season with 13 points - 10 in the second half - to go with a team-high four steals at WMU.Â
- He pulled down a team-high nine boards with four assists against Kent State.Â
- He hit three from distance and finished with nine points at Akron and had a season-high 16 points at Dayton with three steals.Â
NO JOSHING AROUND
- Senior Josh McFolley - who was named the HL Player of the Week on Jan. 14 - scored a season-high 29 points - his 13th career 20-point game - hitting 10-of-16 from the field and 6-of-9 from three with five steals against Green Bay and came back with 18 points against Milwaukee.Â
- He is now averaging 12.4 points - 19th in the HL - 3.1 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game.Â
- He had 19 points with a season-high seven rebounds off the bench at Akron and tallied nine points and tied his season high for the third time this year with six assists at Xavier.Â
- In the HL opener at Youngstown State, McFolley ended with 14 points, while tallying 15 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals at Cleveland State.Â
ANOTHER FOREIGN TITAN
- Detroit Mercy freshman Willy Isiani made his long-awaited debut against NKU and scored nine points, hitting three 3-pointers in just 11 minutes of action.
- He came back with four more triples at Oakland and hit another at UIC as all eight of his field goals have been from downtown.Â
- A native of Tbilisi, Georgia, Isiani, was at ASI Prep in California last year and averaged 8.4 points and 4.0 rebounds, while shooting 40.0 percent from three.Â
- Prior to that, he suited up overseas for CB Gran Canaria and Gran Canaria B in Spain and MIA Academy Tbilisi and played in the 2017 FIBA U-20 European Championship Division B for Georgia.Â
- He was also the MVP in the 16-U Georgia National Championship and the U-18 Tbilisi Championship
- He is believed to be the first Titan from the country of Georgia.Â
1,286 & COUNTING
- After scoring eight points against Oakland, senior Josh McFolley is now 22nd in school history with 1,286 points, 55 shy of 21st place.
PICKING YOUR POCKET
- Senior Josh McFolley has been a thief all of his Titan career and posted a season-high five steals against Green Bay.
- He also has registered four steals at Xavier, at Temple and against Kent State.Â
- He now has 42 steals on the year and leads the Horizon League and is 38th in the nation with 2.10 steals per game.
- The 188 thefts are fourth in school history and just seven away from the school record.Â
- He led the team and was tied for second in the HL with 1.5 steals per game last year as his 49 steals was the second most in the league.Â
- In his career, he has recorded a steal in 87 of his 113 career games, including 43 multi-steal contests and 27 with at least three takeaways.
G CRASHING THE GLASS
- Senior Gerald Blackshear Jr. is coming off a career day scoring a career-best 13 points at UIC with eight rebounds and a career-tying three steals.
- He hit all five of his shots as he is now shooting 64.6 percent from the field this year and 60.4 percent in his career.Â
- He pulled down eight rebounds in 21 minutes against Oakland and that was after a netting nine points in just 13 minutes of action against Milwaukee, hitting all four of his shots.Â
- In the season opener at Western Michigan, he showed just how important he is registering eight points and a team-high 10 rebounds in just 23 minutes of court time.
- The 10 rebounds were the most since he pulled down a career-best 11 boards at Cleveland State as a sophomore.Â
- He recorded a game-high eight rebounds against Wright State, doing a good job of helping the Titans contain the Raiders' big guys in a win.Â
- He compiled six points, a team-high seven rebounds and two steals at Butler, a team-high nine boards against Loyola Maryland and eight points with six boards at Xavier.Â
- He leads the team with 4.7 rebounds per game.Â
KING ME
- Graduate senior Derrien King saw his streak of seven-straight games in double figures come to an end against Oakland, but he has reached double figures 11 times on the year.
- He posted 16 points against Milwaukee, his second highest output of the season.
- After averaging just 7.0 points and 3.6 rebounds in his first 11 games, he is now tallying 11.3 points and 3.9 rebounds in his last nine games, and has hit at least three 3-pointers in four of those contests. Â
- He had 11 points and five rebounds against Green Bay and scored 15 at Cleveland State, 11 versus Wright State and 14 against NKU.Â
- He also grabbed a career-high eight rebounds at Xavier and had six boards at CSU.Â
- He was named to the Legends Classic Subregional All-Tournament Team after recording 15.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists, while nailing eight triples in wins over Loyola Maryland and Bowling Green.Â
- He had 14 points and a career-tying seven rebounds in the title game versus BGSU and that was after scoring a season-high 17 points - hitting four 3-pointers - with four rebounds, two assists a steal and a block.
WE GOT OUR CURRY
- It was a long road for junior Harrison Curry to get back on the court, but he has added a much-needed inside presence for the Titans.
- He is averaging 6.3 rebounds and 6.0 points in his last four games tallying his first career double-double with 11 points and a season-high 10 boards against Green Bay, seven points and tying for the team lead with eight boards against Milwaukee and posting six points and seven boards versus Oakland.Â
- In his Titan debut, he scored 16 points with three rebounds and two blocks at Toledo.Â
- He then had 12 points with four rebounds, a block and a steal against Ohio, 12 points, six rebounds, three steals and two blocks at Youngstown State and 10 points at CSU.Â
- After playing just one game at Louisiana Tech last year before an injury in the season opener forced him to miss the year, he transferred to Detroit Mercy and applied for a waiver to play immediately.
- He missed the first nine games this year before it was approved by the NCAA.Â
TAKING CARE OF THE BALL
- Detroit Mercy has seen its offense struggle at times, but not because it is turning it over.Â
- The Titans lead the conference and are 20th in Division I committing just 10.9 per game.
- Detroit Mercy had just five turnovers on the road at Cleveland State and now has eight games with less than 10 turnovers on the year.
