YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (10/27/2019) -- Despite outshooting Youngstown State by a substantial margin, the University of Detroit Mercy could not find the back of the net as the Titans dropped a 1-0 game to the Penguins on Sunday.
Detroit Mercy (2-12-1, 0-7-1 HL) outshot Youngstown State (4-12-1, 2-6 HL), 17-7, on the day and also held a 3-1 advantage on corner kicks, but YSU scored just two minutes into the contest and that marker held up.

Cece Muskovac made three saves on the day and sophomore
Hailey Wentzloff lead the offensive attack with six shots, two on goal that were saved.
Detroit Mercy will close out the year on Friday, Nov. 1, as the Titans host NKU on Senior Day. The game will kick off at 7 p.m. with Senior Day festivities starting at 6:45.
First Period:
- YSU scored at the 2:03 mark to take the early lead
- Sophomore Julie Ann Piechocki and Wentzloff had shots go high in the next few minutes
- Junior Rachel Russo booted one high at 11:16
- The Penguins had a corner kick opportunity at 12:35 that resulted in a blocked shot by the Titans before Muskovac came up with a pair of saves to keep YSU off the scoreboard
- Wentzloff had a shot saved on the 30th minute that set up a corner kick
- Off the corner kick, the Titans had a great look on net as junior Olivia Parra fired one in, but a Youngstown State defender helped the goalie by blocking the shot and clearing it
Second Period:
- The Titans came out spirited with three shots early on, but were all high or wide
- Junior Olivia Elby had a shot go just high in the 60th minute, while junior Sophie Mapes had one blocked in the 69th minute
- Wentzloff had a great look for a goal at 77:17, but her boot just sailed over the crossbar
- The Titans had a corner kick in the 81st minute, but junior Kelli Doyle could not get the header on resulting shot on frame
- Piechocki had a shot blocked at 84:12, and then Russo was able to control the ball but sent it wide
- The Titans last opportunity to tie was in the 88th minute off a corner kick, but Wentzloff's shot was just high again
- Muskovac came up with a save at 88:35
Game Notes:
- Detroit Mercy leads the all-time series, 20-2, but are now 9-2 on the road
- The six shots by Wentzloff were a season-high for her and for any Titan on the season
