DETROIT (10/06/2019) - The University of Detroit Mercy women's soccer team hosted a Horizon League conference game on Sunday as the IUPUI Jaguars came to town and earned a 3-0 win.
Senior
Amanda Emke made her first collegiate start in net and posted two saves for the Titans (2-7-2, 0-2-1 HL).
IUPUI (9-3-1, 3-0-1 HL) scored midway through the first and added two markers early in the second half.
Early in the first, the Titans had a great look on net from a corner kick by sophomore
Hailey Wentzloff as the initial header off junior
Kelli Doyle was saved and another header by junior
Rachel Russo was blocked.
Late in the contest, a corner kick in the 84th minute by sophomore
Julie Ann Piechocki was saved.
The Titans were outshot, 10-8, but had a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Detroit Mercy will be back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 9, as the red, white and blue visit Oakland in a #MetroSeries match-up that was postponed last week due to rain. Match time is set for 4 p.m.
First Period:
- Both teams had corner kicks early on, but the shots that resulted were not on net
- At 7:10, a corner by Wentzloff found Doyle, whose header was saved and off the rebound, Russo controlled it but her header was blocked
- Freshman Stephanie Maniaci had a shot go wide in the 12th minute
- IUPUI got on the board at 18:40
- Emke came up with a save in the 21st minute
- Junior Olivia Parra ripped a shot on goal that was saved at 24:23
- Emke posted another save at 32:33
Second Period:
- IUPUI struck for goals at 49:21 and 50:11
- Off a Piechocki corner kick in the 76th minute, freshman Sofia Bellaire and junior Neteya Tavernier had shots that were blocked
- At 84:337, Piechocki attempted another corner kick and rifled it on net but was turned away

- The Titans still lead the all-time series 6-5-3
- Detroit Mercy has now had three goalies start a game this year
