Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Upended By IUPUI

DETROIT (10/06/2019) - The University of Detroit Mercy women's soccer team hosted a Horizon League conference game on Sunday as the IUPUI Jaguars came to town and earned a 3-0 win.

Senior Amanda Emke made her first collegiate start in net and posted two saves for the Titans (2-7-2, 0-2-1 HL).

IUPUI (9-3-1, 3-0-1 HL) scored midway through the first and added two markers early in the second half.

Early in the first, the Titans had a great look on net from a corner kick by sophomore Hailey Wentzloff as the initial header off junior Kelli Doyle was saved and another header by junior Rachel Russo was blocked.

Late in the contest, a corner kick in the 84th minute by sophomore Julie Ann Piechocki was saved.

The Titans were outshot, 10-8, but had a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Detroit Mercy will be back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 9, as the red, white and blue visit Oakland in a #MetroSeries match-up that was postponed last week due to rain. Match time is set for 4 p.m.

First Period:
  • Both teams had corner kicks early on, but the shots that resulted were not on net
  • At 7:10, a corner by Wentzloff found Doyle, whose header was saved and off the rebound, Russo controlled it but her header was blocked

  • IUPUI got on the board at 18:40
  • Emke came up with a save in the 21st minute
