LAS VEGAS (11/30/2019) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball team dropped its second game at the 2019 South Point Shootout on Saturday, falling 69-47 to Tennessee Tech. Freshman guard Markyia McCormick scored a career-high 15 points for the Titans in the setback, with senior Zoey Oatis adding 11 points for the red, white and blue.

McCormick became the fourth Titan freshmen to score in double figures this season and tallied the eighth double-figure scoring effort overall this season from Detroit Mercy freshmen.

Oatis was active all game and finished 4-of-6 on field goal attempts and on 3-of-4 free throws, while also grabbing five rebounds and one steal. She finished the game plus-four for the Titans. Tennessee Tech went ahead early and led after one quarter, 24-11. The Eagles continued their offensive pressure in the second quarter and led at the halftime break, 45-19. McCormick helped highlight a strong third stanza for the Titans, scoring on a lay-up early in the quarter. After classmate Abbie McDowell nailed a 3-pointer from the corner, McCormick scored six points in a span of 47 seconds to cap a 9-0 Titan run, with TTU calling a timeout. After the Titan run, Detroit Mercy trailed 51-32 with 4:13 left in the third quarter.

The Eagles finished the third quarter on a run to take a 61-34 lead after three quarters. Neither team could connect on a field goal early in the fourth quarter before McCormick converted on an old-fashioned 3-point play with 6:14 left on the clock to get to 15 points. Oatis scored five points in the remainder of the fourth quarter.

Detroit Mercy shot 35.2 percent (19-for-54) in the contest overall and sank two 3-pointers in the game (2-of-15). The Titans were 7-of-14 from the free throw line. The Titans had 15 turnovers in the contest, but also forced Tennessee Tech into 14 miscues. Detroit Mercy had five steals -- two each by junior Aly Reiff and Moore.

The Titans out-scored Tennessee Tech in the second half, 28-24. Detroit Mercy held TTU to 39-percent shooting, but the Eagles sank 7-of-16 attempts from the long line (43-percent) and sank 16 free throws.
