INDIANAPOLIS (12/16/2019) -- University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball freshman Bridgid Fox (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona Area) was named the Horizon League Freshman of the Week by the league office on Monday, following her performance last week in a home game against Toledo. It was the first career honor for Fox and second for the Titans in the opening six weeks of the season.

Fox nearly had her first career double-double, totaling career-highs with 14 points and nine rebounds, while shooting 54-percent from the field (6-for-11). The freshman from Altoona, Pa. recorded five offensive rebounds out of her nine overall and notched two assists and one block for the Titans against Toledo.

In her second career start, Fox played a career-best 28 minutes and scored in double figures for the second time in her career. She had eight points in the first half, before totaling six more points in the third quarter on 2-of-2 shooting, adding two free throws. She finished one rebound shy of her first career 10-rebound game.

Overall on the season, Fox ranks fourth on the team in rebounding at 3.5 boards per game and sixth in scoring at 5.6 points per contest. She is second with 13 offensive boards and is shooting 57.5 percent from the floor (23-for-40) in her first 10 collegiate games.

She's the second Titan freshmen to earn Horizon League Freshman of the Week honors following classmate Sylare Starks, who received the honor on Nov. 25.

The Titans return to the court on Saturday, hosting Eastern Michigan for their final non-conference game before opening league play the following Saturday on Dec. 28 against Oakland from Calihan Hall. Detroit Mercy's contest with the Eagles on Dec. 21 opens a basketball doubleheader with the Detroit Mercy men's basketball team, which plays SIU-Edwardsville.
