HIGHLAND, HEIGHTS, Ky. (2/7/2019) --Â The start of a five-game road swing did not go as planned for the Titans as the University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team dropped a 97-65 contest on the road at first place NKU on Thursday night.
Freshman
Antoine Davis had a game-high 26 points, nailing four more 3-pointers to move into sole possession of second place in school history and seventh place all-time among freshmen in NCAA history for three-point shots. He also had a career-high three steals and four assists.Â
Junior
Harrison Curry tallied nine points and five rebounds and senior
Josh McFolley netted seven.
Detroit Mercy (9-15, 6-6 HL) and first place NKU (19-6, 9-3 HL) went back and forth early on and the score was 15-14 NKU, but the Norse went on a big run to open a 20-point lead in the first half.
The red, white and blue battled, but NKU would raise its lead into the 30's in the second stanza.
Juniors
Darrell Riley Jr. and
Lamar Hamrick each had six points apiece, while graduate senior
Derrien King had four points and five boards.
The Titans shot 42.4 percent for the game with six triples.
Detroit Mercy will be back in action on Saturday as the Titans visit Wright State in a 7 p.m. tip at the Nutter Center.Â
First Half:
- Davis started the game with a jumper and McFolley hit a three as the Titans had an early 5-0 lead
- NKU came back with seven-straight points, but Davis knotted it at 7-7 just four minutes in
- A triple by sophomore Willy Isiani made it 14-12 at 12:37 and then Hamrick got to the rim for a layup and the Titans trailed just 15-14 midway through the period
- NKU went on a 12-3 spurt to open a double-digit lead at 27-17 at the 7:46 mark and the Norse would go up by as many as 20-, 51-31, in the first half
- Davis nailed three more three-pointers in the final 8:18
Second Half:
- NKU started the half on a 13-4 run to push its lead to 64-35
- Curry started to get some looks inside, getting to the line, and a jumper by King had the Titans down 74-45 with 8:54 left
- Davis final three came with 18 seconds remaining

- NKU now leads the all-time series, 7-1, as the Norse have won six in a row
- With his four triples, Davis now has 106 on the season, passes the likes of San Diego State's Tony Ross, Virginia's Curtis Staples, Kentucky's Malik Monk and into seventh all-time among freshmen in NCAA history
- Davis also passed Rashad Phillips' total of 102 in 1999-00 for the second most in school history, trailing the 136 Phillips had as a senior in 2000-01
- Davis now has 17, 20-point games, eight 30+ performances and a pair of 40-point efforts in his first 22 collegiate games
- Davis is one of just four freshmen in Division I to score in double figures in every game they have played on the year (RJ Barrett & Zion Williamson-Duke, Lamine Diane-Cal State Northridge)
- With his two steals, McFolley now has 192 in his career, passing Rashad Phillips and now tied with Woody Payne for second in school history, just three behind Jerry Davis for the school record
- Curry has now scored nine points in back-to-back games that he has played in as he missed the last two with an injury
- With his seven points, McFolley now has 1,329 in his career, 12 behind Jermaine Jackson for 21st place in school history
