FAIRBORN, Ohio (2/9/2019) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team could not right the ship as the Titans were downed at Wright State, 83-60, on Saturday night at the Nutter Center.
Freshman
Antoine Davis led the team with 17 points, nailing two more 3-pointers to push his total to 108 on the year.
Junior
Harrison Curry tied his season high with 16 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, while senior
Josh McFolley had 13 points with three rebounds and a steal, moving to second in school history in that category with 193 in his career.
Detroit Mercy (9-16, 6-7 HL) battled in the first half, but Wright State (15-11, 9-4 HL) went on two runs to open a double-digit lead in the opening stanza and extended its advantage into the 20's in the second.Â
Freshman
Boe Nguidjol tied his season high with six rebounds and came away with two steals, while graduate senior
Derrien King had four points and three boards.Â
Detroit Mercy will stay on its road trip as the Titans visit Milwaukee on Thursday, Feb. 14, in a game that will tip at 8 p.m.Â
First Half:
- Curry had a layup and a three from Davis gave the Titans an early 5-4 lead
- A three-point play as Davis hit a jumper and was fouled and the red, white and blue was within three, 15-12, with 12:10 left, and another jumper a minute later pulled the team within two, 16-14
- Wright State would open a 24-16 lead with 8:56 left
- The Titans answered with back-to-back baskets by Curry and Davis, but the Raiders would extend their lead to 29-20 at the 5:45 mark
- A 7-0 run by the Titans came next as McFolley and King had buckets and then Davis nailed another three to get the team within 29-27 with 4:29 remaining
- An acrobatic layup by McFolley also had the Titans down by just two at 31-29, but Wright State went on a small run at the end to jump out to a 39-31 advantage at the break
Second Half:
- Curry and McFolley went back-to-back again with baskets and had the team within six at 41-35 early in the period
- Wright State then went on an 11-2 run over a five-minute span to storm out to a 52-37 lead
- The Raiders continued their run for a 66-41 advantage with 7:30 remaining
Game Notes:
- Wright State leads the all-time series, 32-27, including 18-9 at the Nutter CenterÂ
- The Titans used their 11th different starting line-up of the season and a new starter in Darrell Riley Jr., gave the Titans 12 different starters on the year, which leads the nation
- With his two 3-pointers, Davis now has 108 triples on the season, seventh most among freshman in NCAA history and just 14 away from the record, held by Stephen Curry's 122 at Davidson in 2006-07
- McFolley now has McFolley 193 career steals, second in school history and just three away from owning the record that Jerry Davis has with 195Â
- McFolley's 13 points give him 1,242 in his career, moving to 21st in school history, passing former assistant coach Jermaine Jackson
- Curry also had 16 points in his Titan debut at Toledo
- Nguidjol also had six rebounds at Akron and against NKU
