On the day,
Jordan Manno had five hits, three RBI and scored two runs,
Courtney Gilbert had three hits, four RBI and scored three runs, and
Ellie Boteler had two hits and three RBI.
Ashley Mauser got the win in game one, tossing 5.2 innings, while scattering one hit, one earned run, three hits and 10 strikeouts. That is her fourth win of the season, and back-to-back games with double digit strikeouts.
DETROIT MERCY 11 – PRESBYTERIAN 1
The Titans jumped on the Blue Hose right out of the gate, loading the bases in the top of the first, courtesy of Gilbert being hit by a pitch, a single from Manno, a passed ball and a walk from Boteller.
Alyssa Lang hit a sacrifice fly into right field to put the Titans on the board, 1-0.
In the top of the second,
Liz Paver was hit by a pitch and stole second.
Gilbert doubled down the left field line driving Paver in and doubling the Titans lead to 2-0.
Gilbert then stole third, followed by a single into left field from Manno, bringing the lead up to 3-0.
Manno stole second base, and Boteler corked a double into left center field, bringing her home and extending the lead to 4-0.
In the top of the fifth, Lang reached on an error by the catcher and pinch hitter
McKenna Tanguay singled up the middle, putting Lang on third base.
Paver then laid down a picture perfect squeeze bunt and all runners were safe, making the score 5-0. That was followed by another bunt, this time from
Sydney Pollock, who advanced the runners to second and third.
With two runners in scoring position, Gilbert stepped up to the plate and hit a ball into orbit over the left field fence, improving the Titans lead to 8-0.
Mauser brought her best stuff on the day, and had a no-hitter going through 4.1 innings, but the no-hit bid was foiled by an infield single in the bottom of the fifth.
The Blue Hose scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the fifth, making the score at the time 8-1.
Pollock led off the top of the seventh inning with a triple deep off the right field fence.
Gilbert then drew a walk and Manno singled into right field, driving in Pollock, moving Gilbert to third and advancing to second on the throw.
With the score at 9-1, Boteler singled up the middle driving in both runners and extending the lead to 11-1.
Liz Murphy came in for Mauser in the fifth inning and recorded her third save of the season.
DETROIT MERCY 1 – PENN STATE 3
The Titans faced off against some stiff Big Ten competition in game two, taking on the Nittany Lions of Penn State.
Erica Guerrero made her first collegiate start in the circle, tossing 3.1 innings and scattering six hits and three earned runs.
Penn State scored one run in the top of the first and two in the top of the fourth.
The Titans bats disappeared early in the game, but they came alive late, as they looked to spark a rally.
In the bottom of the sixth, Gilbert and Manno hit back-to-back singles, followed by a walk from Boteler.
The bases were loaded for
Kori Keyes, who striped a single into right field, driving home Gilbert and putting the Titans on the scoreboard, 3-1.
The Titans rally ultimately came up just short, as they left three on base in the bottom of the sixth and were unable to complete the comeback in the seventh.

The Titans are back in action tomorrow from Madeira Beach, where they are slated for games versus FIU and Villanova at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m respectively.
