INDIANAPOLIS (3/24/19) – The University of Detroit Mercy women's tennis team suffered a narrow 4-3 defeat at IUPUI on Sunday morning from West Indy Racquet Club in Indianapolis.
 
The Titans dropped the opening set of doubles, but rallied to pick up wins from the top two courts to earn the first point of the match and take a 1-0 lead into singles.
 
Chelsea Apawti got on the board first with a win on the fourth court of singles, giving the Titans a 2-0 advantage in the match. Apawti picked up the win with ease after winning in straight sets – 6-1 and 6-2.
 
The Jaguars evened the score at 2-2 with wins at Nos. 1 and 5, before Iris Thioux put the Titans ahead with a win at No. 2. Thioux earned the victory after dispatching Gabrielle Ochalik in straight sets – 6-2 and 6-3.
 
IUPUI, however, would answer the Titans with wins on the final two courts to pick up the comeback win. Detroit Mercy falls to 7-7 and 0-2 in the Horizon League with the loss, while IUPUI improves to 5-10 and 1-1 in league action.
 
The Titans return to action for a pair of home contests next weekend, as Milwaukee (Sat., Mar. 30) and Green Bay (Sun., Mar. 31) head to the Motor City.
