EDISON, N.J. (3/4/2019) -- After breaking the school record for assists and firing in the game-winner in a thrilling road win, University of Detroit Mercy senior Matthew Vangalen was named the MAAC Offensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday afternoon. 

It is the first time this season and the fourth time in his career that Vangalen has earned the weekly MAAC award. It is also the third time this year the conference has honored a Titan.

Vangalen posted his third-straight hat trick and 12th of his career in a big way as his third goal gave the Titans a 15-14 lead at Bellarmine with just 10 seconds left. He had two goals in the first half and tallied a school-record six assists for nine points in the triumph.

On the year, he leads the team with 19 points and nine assists and is tied for the team lead with 10 goals. He is now third in school history with 117 points and 67 goals and is also second in assists with 50.  

Vangalen and the Titans will be back in action on Wednesday as the red, white and blue travel to face the Falcons of Air Force.
