GREEN BAY, WISC. (4/19/19) -- The University of Detroit Mercy softball team dropped game one in their away series versus Green Bay on Friday evening.
On the day,
McKenna Tanguay had a hit and an RBI,
Ellie Boteler and
Emily Wagenbrenner each had a hit and an RBI and
Jordan Manno and
Sydney Pollock both had a hit.
DETROIT MERCY 3 – GREEN BAY 5
The Titans got off to a strong start, when Gilbert drew a walk to begin the game.
Kori Keyes then laid down a sac bunt to move her into scoring position for Tanguay.
Tanguay drove a single up the middle and brought Gilbert home for RBI number 16 on the season and a 1-0 Titans lead.
The red, white and blue kept things rolling until the fourth, when the Phoenix put three runs on the board to gain their first advantage of the day.
Green Bay added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth, making the score 5-1.
In the top of the seventh, the Titans tried to piece together a rally. A single from
Alyssa Lang got things started, and she came around to score on a triple from Boteler, making the score 2-1.
Wagenbrenner entered the game as a pinch hitter and singled to shortstop, bringing Boteler home, cutting the deficit to 5-3 and putting the tying run at the plate.
With Wagenbrenner on first base,
Sydney Pollock singled into center field, putting two runners on base and the go-ahead run at the plate.
However, the Titans were unable to complete the comeback, falling by a final score of 5-3.
Ashley Mauser got the start in the circle and tossed five innings while scattering four hits, five runs (four earned), and two strikeouts.
Liz Murphy relieved Mauser in the fifth inning and tossed one inning of action herself.

The Titans are slated for a doubleheader versus the Phoenix tomorrow, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
