@UDMLAX Prepares For Saturday Visit From Manhattan

DETROIT (4/5/2019) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse team will start a two-game homestand this weekend as the red, white and blue get ready for Manhattan on Saturday.

Game time is set for Noon at Titans Field and will be broadcast live on ESPN+.

Detroit Mercy used a big comeback last week to down Marist, 12-11, and is now 6-3 on the season and 3-1 in the MAAC as the Titans are tied for second place.

Manhattan is 5-5 overall and 1-2 in the conference as the Jaspers had a thrilling, 11-10, win last week against NJIT.

  • Payton tallied two goals and an assist along with a ground ball in the Titans comeback win at Marist to help Detroit Mercy move to 6-3 overall and 3-1 in the MAAC.
  • Payton started the Titans game-ending 4-0 run with a goal in the fourth and also had an assist in that span. He started the day scoring a goal in the first quarter.
  • He now has seven goals and two assists in his last three games.

  • Detroit Mercy comes into the game first in the MAAC and 17th in the nation in man-up offense at 40.5 percent (154-37), while Manhattan leads the conference and is second in the NCAA in man-down defense, killing off penalties at 86.4 percent (3-of-22).

VANTASTIC
  • Senior Matthew Vangalen set the school record for points last season recording 51 points on a career-high 31 goals with 20 assists and he is on pace to challenge that mark with 37 total points through nine games.
  • He just tallied six points on five assists and had the game-winning goal in the win at Marist.
  • He now 37 points on the season with 13 goals and 24 assists - second in school history and just two away from the single-season mark of 24 by Alex Maini in 2014. He just broke Maini's career assist mark as he now has 65 helpers in his career as a Titan.
  • Vangalen posted his 10th career hat trick with four goals and five points at nationally-ranked Notre Dame and followed that up with his 11th registering three goals and a helper in the win at Marquette and 12th with six points on three goals and a school-record six assists at Bellarmine.

  • He was 27-of-33 with a program-best 15 ground balls in the victory at Bellarmine, where he won the game's last 13 faceoffs and also scored a goal.
