DETROIT MERCY 2 – IUPUI 4
The Titans honored their seniors by starting all of them. Lambert started behind the plate, Gilbert and Manno in the middle infield, Keyes at third base and Pollock at designated player. Mauser got the start in game two.
IUPUI struck early in game one just like they did in yesterday's game, putting one run on the board to take a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the first inning, Boteler hit a solo home run to right center field, reminiscent of yesterday's solo shot, again tying the game, this time 1-1.
In the bottom of the fifth, Mortensen hit one right on the sweet spot, driving it over the fence in right center field and giving the Titans a 2-1 advantage.
The Jaguars answered immediately, knotting the score at 2-2 in the top of the sixth.
Both teams were unable to find a way to win it in regulation, thus taking the game into extra innings.
In the top of the ninth inning, the Jaguars broke through. They put two runs on the board to take a 4-2 lead, and that advantage would prove to be enough.
The Titans fell by a final of 4-2 in game one, and
Liz Murphy took the loss, going nine innings while scattering twelve hits, four earned runs and eight strikeouts.
DETROIT MERCY 4 -- IUPUI 0
In game two, Mauser brought her best stuff, tossing a complete game shutout while scattering only five hits and two strikeouts.
Gilbert led off the game with a double to left center field, followed by two ground outs, allowing Courtney to advance to third base.
Mortensen then drove a shot down the left field line, through the legs of the third baseman before she could even react, giving the Titans an early 1-0 advantage.
Alyssa Lang led off the bottom of the second inning with a single, and advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt by
Liz Paver.
With Lang in scoring position,
Emily Wagenbrenner singled up the middle, bringing Lang home and doubling the Titans lead, 2-0.
In the bottom of the third, Manno singled to left field and stole second, putting her into scoring position for
Kori Keyes.
Keyes doubled down the left field line, bringing Manno home from second base and extending the lead up to 3-0.
Manno led off the bottom of the fifth with a shot into center field, followed by a double from Boteler, allowing Manno to come all the way around the bases and give the Titans a 4-0 edge.
Mauser worked out of a jam in the top of the sixth, with the bases loaded and only one out, and followed that up by doing the same in the bottom of the seventh, securing a 4-0 win in her last outing at Buysse Ballpark.
ON DECK
The Titans will head down to Chicago, Illinois for the upcoming Horizon League tournament. With their 16-8 record and a first round bye, they will not play until Thursday, giving them an extra day of rest.
