DETROIT (6/21/2019) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse team set a few team records and had three players lead the MAAC in four statistical categories in 2019.
As a team, the Titans tallied school records in points per game (16.6), goals per game (10.47) and faceoff winning percentage (.585). They ranked second in the MAAC and 17th in Division I in faceoff winning percentage and were also second in the league in ground balls per game (32.13.)
Senior
Matthew Vangalen led the MAAC and was 13th in the country with 2.40 assists per game and was also third in the conference and 51st in the nation with 3.67 points per game. He broke his own school record with 55 points on the year on another school record 36 assists to go with 19 goals and left the Titans as the all-time assist leader with 77, third in school history with 76 goals and second with 153 points.
Junior
Seth Mendell topped the MAAC in goals per game (2.64), 28th in the nation, and was also tied for first with teammate
Cam Kostus with seven man-up goals, which was 12th in the country. Through three years, Mendell is now fourth in the school record book with 74 goals and fifth with 97 points.
Junior
Alex Jarzembowski now owns every Titan faceoff record winning .600 percent on the season for second in the MAAC and 18th in Division I and was also second in the league and 25th in the nation scooping up 5.47 ground balls per game. He owns a career winning percentage of .565 tallying 450 victories - both first in Titan history - and his 27 faceoff wins at Bellarmine earlier in the season was a school record and tied for first in the MAAC and the fourth most in the country.
Sophomore
Logan Shamblin - the MAAC Defensive Player of the Year - was third in the league with 11.47 saves per game, while sophomore long-stick midfielder
Paul Manuszak - the MAAC LSM of the Year - was fifth in the conference and 45th in DI with 4.80 ground balls per game.
Senior
Emmett Green also joined a select group of Detroit Mercy players as he became just the ninth Titan (

Chris Nemes ) to play in every game in his four years, appearing in all 59 contests and helping the team to back-to-back winning seasons while posting three goals, six assists, 22 caused turnovers and 35 ground balls as a defensive midfielder and long pole defenseman.
The Titans ended 2019 with their second-straight winning season at 8-7, tied for second in the MAAC at 5-2, which tied a school record for the most MAAC wins in school history.
