Waters, Orangeville Heading To The Minto Cup

DETROIT (8/13/2019) -- University of Detroit Mercy redshirt freshman Kyle Waters has helped his team to a pair of titles so far and will be looking for a third when the Orangeville Northmen play in the historic Minto Cup.

The Minto Cup is set for Aug. 15-26 at the Langley Events Centre in Langley Township, British Columbia.

Orangeville won the Ontario Junior A Lacrosse League regular-season title with a 16-3-1 mark and then won the program's 10th provincial championship with a 3-1 series win over Mimico in the opening round and 4-1 series victories over Brampton in the semifinals and Burlington in the championship to secure a berth to the Minto Cup.

"He was second in the league in scoring," said Orangeville head coach Bruce Codd about Waters to the Orangeville Banner. "Kyle just continued his dominant play out front and scored a lot of big goals along the run."

In the playoffs, he posted 50 points on 21 goals and 29 assists. During the regular season, Waters led the team in points (97) and assists (55) and was second in goals (42). Overall, he was second in the OJALL in points, third in goals and fifth in assists.

The Minto Cup is located in the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame and was donated in 1901 by the Governor-General, Lord Minto. It is awarded annually to the champion junior men's lacrosse team of Canada, competed for by the Junior A provincial champions of British Columbia, Ontario and Alberta, the only provinces where organized lacrosse thrives.
