DETROIT (8/13/2019) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's soccer program and head coach
Nicholas Deren '99 has announced the addition of
Jeremiah Belton to the Titan coaching staff prior to the upcoming 2019 season. Belton played collegiate soccer locally at Concordia-Ann Arbor. He joins a veteran coaching staff that also brings back assistant coach
Spencer Pappas and goalkeepers coach
Keith Jarema.
Belton previously served as the assistant coach for the men's soccer program at Concordia from 2017-19 and is also the assistant women's soccer coach for Livonia F.C. He also is currently the Technical Director for MPSA Crush, overseeing the training of U10 and younger age groups. As part of the Livonia City F.C. staff, Belton helps lead training sessions for the squad and works with all goalkeepers in game preparation.
Prior to that, Belton was also the Director of Coaching/President for the Van Buren Community Soccer Association, where he was responsible for recruiting and retaining staff, coaches and players, while creating a culture of development of growth with teams and players.
Belton was a standout high school player at Agape Christian Academy in Canton, finishing second in the state in goals scored during his junior season and finishing his career as the school record holder in goals with 57. He was a team captain and All-State honoree. He was a two-year starter at Concordia University in Ann Arbor, leading the team in goals both seasons. As a sophomore in 2003, he was selected All-Conference and All-Region, while also being named team captain. He's fifth all-time in goals in a season (10) and career (19) at the University.
He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from the University of South Florida in 2014 and Master of Business Administration degree in Finance from Eastern Michigan University in 2016.
The Titans are back on campus and preparing for the 2019 season. Detroit Mercy opens the regular season at home, hosting Niagara on Aug. 30 from Titan Field. The Titans play in two road exhibitions prior to that game with the first coming on Sunday against DePaul in Chicago.
