DETROIT (9/19/2019) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's soccer team hosts Horizon League foe UIC for Homecoming on Saturday underneath the newly-installed lights from Titan Field. First kick is set for 7 p.m. and admission into the contest is free.
The game may also be seen live via ESPN-Plus as well as locally on WADL TV-38, the first of two games on the Detroit television network.
Detroit Mercy (2-4, 0-1 Horizon League) is playing in its second Horizon League contest of the season after falling 1-0 to Milwaukee in the first night soccer game from Titan Field last Saturday. The match is set to help cap the Homecoming festivities on campus Saturday.
On The Pitch:
- The Titans host UIC for the 28th time in men's soccer and hold a 12-10-5 advantage over the Flames, which includes a 6-2-2 mark under head coach Nicholas Deren '99. Detroit Mercy is 3-1-1 in its past five home matches from Titan Field against the visitors from Chicago.
- Sophomore forward Kyle Bandyk leads the Titans in points with one goal and two assists for four points through six games in 2019.
- Junior midfielder Collin Cavanaugh is tied for the team lead with two assists, while five different Titans have scored goals so far this season.
- Senior defender Garret Weaver has made starts in each of the past 54 matches dating back to the 2016 season -- his freshman campaign for the Titans.
- In net, sophomore GK Devin Mendez has played every single minute this season and ranks tied-for-third in the Horizon League with 21 saves.
- Detroit Mercy is coming off a pair of losses -- falling 1-0 to Milwaukee last Saturday in the Horizon League opener as well as to Dayton in a road match Tuesday.
Scouting UIC:
- UIC (5-1, 1-0 HL) has won four-straight matches at home, winning consecutive contests over Valparaiso (5-1), Western Illinois (3-0), Green Bay (2-0) and DePaul (4-1). The Flames lone loss of the season was a 1-0 setback on the road at Ohio State.
- UIC has won the last three Horizon League Championships (2016-18) under 10th-year coach Sean Phillips.
- UIC is led offensively by sophomore Bar Hazut, who has 15 points in six games on seven goals and one assist.
- Senior Jesus Perez has nine points on two goals and five assists. Freshman Roberto Alonzo has added three goals.
- In net, junior Sokratis Vasilas has played every minute and holds a 79.2 save percentage and 0.81 goals against average.

The next home match for the Titans is a non-conference meeting with Bowling Green on Tuesday, Oct. 1 from Titan Field at 7 p.m. ET.
