"Hoop Night in the D" Set for Thursday, Oct. 10 at Calihan Hall

DETROIT (9/24/2019) -- Get a first-look at the University of Detroit Mercy men's and women's basketball teams as the Department of Athletics hosts its annual "Hoop Night in the D" event on Thursday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. from Calihan Hall. Doors for the event open at 6 p.m. and admission for all fans is free.

Students and fans in attendance are eligible for prizes, including three opportunities to win money, two of which are $10,000 prizes. The concession stand will also be open for fans throughout the event.

The Titan men's basketball program -- under second-year head coach Mike Davis -- and the Detroit Mercy women's basketball squad -- under the direction of fifth-year head coach Bernard Scott will showcase their teams at the event for the first time prior to the start of the 2019-20 seasons with scrimmages, introductions and other contests.

Fans will have an opportunity to win $10,000 in two different fashions -- with one fan getting an opportunity on a half-court shot and the other coming from a series shootout, with the fan needing to sink a series of shots in order to claim the $10,000 prize. One student will also win $100 in Munch Money with the Metz 3-Point contest.

Other games include a shooting all-stars competition comprised of one women's basketball player, one men's basketball player and an additional Titan student-athlete, where the individuals have to make different shots. The Detroit Mercy cheer and dance teams are also schedule to perform at the event.

Season tickets are now on sale. For more information, please contact the Detroit Mercy Director of Ticket Operations & Sales, Justin Hairston, via email at hairstjj1@udmercy.edu or by phone at 313-993-1700, ext. 7301.
