DETROIT (9/30/2019) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's soccer team begins a three-game stretch of non-conference matches Tuesday night, welcoming Mid-American Conference foe Bowling Green to Detroit for a 7 p.m. contest. The match is slated to be streamed live on ESPN3.com and the WatchESPN Applications.
The Titans (2-5-1 overall) are coming off a 1-1 draw with rival Oakland on Saturday. Admission into the match is free and it's Faculty & Staff Appreciation Night from Titan Field.
On The Pitch:
- The Titans played Metro Series rival Oakland to a 1-1 draw on Saturday, playing the final 32 minutes a man down and scoring the game-tying goal in the 75th minute off a penalty kick by sophomore forward Kyle Bandyk.
- Detroit Mercy and Bowling Green haven't met in men's soccer since the 2014 season; Detroit Mercy trails the Falcons in the all-time series, 8-17-2.
- Sophomore GK Devin Mendez ranks third in the Horizon League in saves per game at 3.75 and ranks fourth in save percentage in league matches at 76.5 percent.
- Bandyk leads the Titans in goals and points with two and six, respectively.
- Senior defender Garret Weaver, who was named a candidate for the Senior CLASS Award on Sept. 23, has started 55 consecutive matches on the back line.
- The red, white and blue returns to Horizon League play on Oct. 12, hosting Northern Kentucky from Titan Field in a doubleheader with the Titan women's soccer team.
Scouting Bowling Green:
- The Falcons are 5-3-1 overall through nine games this season and are coming off a 4-1 victory at home over Canisius on Saturday.
- Senior forward Chris Brennan leads the team with 12 points (four goals, four assists), while junior midfielder Chris Sullivan is just behind with 11 points (four goals, three assists).
- Nine Falcons have scored this year and Bowling Green has a 16-10 advantage in goals scored in 2019.
- Senior GK Anthony Mwembia has started all nine matches, but freshman GKÂ Logan Kowalczyk earned the victory in the last contest, playing the final 70 minutes in the contest.
- Eric Nichols is in his 11th season at the helm of the BGSU men's soccer program in 2019.
