DETROIT (1/13/2020) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse team is just a few weeks away from the start of the season and in a retreat over the weekend, the Titans named their five captains for the upcoming season.
Seniors
Alex Akins,
Sam McClain and
Matt Turner, along with juniors
Brett Erskine and
Ollie Nigh will all wear the "C" this season.Â

Akins is a captain for the second-straight year as the three-time All-League honoree is one of the best defenseman in the MAAC. He played in all 15 games with 14 starts last season and led the team with a career-high 18 caused turnovers.
McClain made a major impact in his first year on the field, earning Second Team All-MAAC honors after recording 14 caused turnovers - third on the team - and 30 ground balls - tied for fifth on the squad.
Turner posted 10 points on four goals and six assists along with 10 ground balls and two caused turnovers last season. Erskine was third on the team with 32 points and second with 22 goals and 10 assists and has 44 goals and 67 points in his career, while Nigh played in all 15 games and had seven points on six goals and an assist along with 37 ground balls, third on the team.Â
Detroit Mercy will open the season on the road at Jacksonville on Feb. 1 and the Titans first home game is set for Feb. 18 against Bellarmine at Ultimate Soccer Arenas.Â
