Mama Said Knock You Out As Titans Top Panthers, 90-84

MILWAUKEE (1/16/2020) -- Four Titans scored in double figures and a hot-shooting first half saw the team go up by 21, but then the red, white and blue held off a furious rally as the University of Detroit Mercy downed Milwaukee, 90-84, on the road on Thursday.

Sophomore Antoine Davis scored a game-high 29 points and had five assists, before fouling out with six minutes left, and sophomore Marquis Moore netted a career-high 18 points with nine rebounds and a career-best five steals. Sophomore Chris Brandon posted his second double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds and junior Dwayne Rose Jr., registered a career-high 16 points.

The Titans (4-15, 2-4 HL) went on a 19-2 run in the first and led by as many as 21 late in the first half. In the second half, Milwaukee (8-10, 3-3 HL) cut the lead all the way down to one, 84-83, but a big basket late by Moore and some timely free throws held off the Panthers charge.

Detroit Mercy shot 45.6 percent for the game, including a blistering 56.3 percent in the front half, and was 10-of-22 from three and an outstanding 28-of-31 (90.3%) at the free-throw line. The Titans also won the rebounding margin, 40-38, and had eight steals in the game.

The Titans were down 17-13 in the first, but started shooting lights out and the defense came up with nine-straight stops in a 19-2 run to jump out in front, 32-19. Later on, the lead would increase to 21 with less than a minute left as graduate senior Brad Calipari hit a three.

In the second half, Detroit Mercy had a double-digit lead for the first 10 minutes, but Milwaukee started to chop into that and eventually cut it to one until Moore's big basket.

Senior Justin Miller had seven points, three rebounds and three assists and Calipari added five.

The red, white and blue will now look for the weekend sweep as the Titans play at Green Bay on Saturday in a 1 p.m. tip.
